President Lincoln's Funeral Cortege:
150 Years ago, in the wake of President Lincoln's assignation in 1865, it was announced he would be buried in his hometown of Springfield, Illinois after a ceremonial funeral in Washington, D.C. The President's remains were conveyed by rail through the Northeast, with official and impromptu memorials along the way. The Cleveland Morning Leader (Cleveland, Ohio) reported on the first part of the journey from Baltimore to Harrisburg, PA, as the cortege progressed on to Philadelphia, New York, and points west.
