"This is a story about a man with a 10 year old son who was suspended for making a gun with his hand. The police showed up at the dad’s house and took his guns. They said he could have them back when his son was 18 and had moved out of the home."

March 1st was just another day when I put my 10 year old, fourth grade son John on the bus and sent him off to school. Or so I thought. On the contrary, today was the day that my life as a gun owner was about to change, dramatically and rapidly.

Sometime during the day, my son allegedly spoke with a few of his classmates. The boys (excluding my son) were involved in a school yard pushing incident the day before. Two or three of these boys (including my son) were talking about going to the house of the boys that did the pushing. These boys were to take with them a water, paint and bb gun. Word of this got to the principal. She immediately interrogated the children. I received a call from the principal advising me of this just as my son got off the bus. She also advised me that my son was to be suspended for two days because of his words. She decided that this talk amongst students warranted filing a police report. If this wasn't bad enough, the police were sent to my residence and I was advised that my guns may be taken from me. This can't be happening, I thought. But it was.

The following Monday I received a call from Pistol Licensing that they would be at my residence in the morning to take my guns and suspend my license. I attempted to explain that this must be a mistake, no wrong doing occurred on my part. My son has no access to any of my guns. The officer that came to my residence saw that all my guns were secured.Pistol Licensing was not interested in my side of the story. They were only interested in what happened with my ten year old son in school.

If you think this can't happen to you, you are wrong. It is happening every day here in American. Kids get suspended from school and the aftermath can be as ugly as my situation.

When will my license be restored? What is involved? What is the cost? These are all questions that I had. Some still remain unanswered. The few answers I have are not at all comforting. According to the police, I can expect to have my license restored when my son is an adult and moves out of my residence. If I don't want to wait that long I can file an Article 78 and request that my license be reinstated. The cost, so far, about $6,500 monetarily. Emotionally, the cost is far, far higher. That can't be calculated. All my handguns are gone, my license is suspended and my long arms are out of the house waiting to be sold at a local store.

What can you do to protect yourself and others? First, pick up the phone and call Senator Flanagans office. Demand that they enact legislation similar to Maryland's Senate Bill 1058. It will protect school age children, their rights and those of their parents. Second, keep a firearms attorney on your speed dial. Carry his card. Remember his number. Next, buddy up with someone you trust that has a valid pistol license. Be ready at a moments notice to transfer your guns to him. You of course will do the same for him if the need arises. That will protect your guns from becoming property of the County in which you live. Talk to your kids. This is what hurts. In order to make them "School Compliant", you will have to supress there rights to exist as children. Don't let them say "pow" when they point there little fingers. Don't let them mention guns, water, paint, bb, or other. You just learned what can happen. And it happened right here in Suffolk County, to one of us.

With any luck, and some hard work from us all, a bill comparable to 1058 will pass here in New York. Then we can begin to breathe more freely. Schools need to understand that 5-12 year olds pointing their fingers in harmless gestures, are not the threats they need to subdue. What we need to subdue is the army of over zealous, over paid, school administrators that suddenly have become the "finger pointing police",

This is the lunacy that is now in our schools. Read about it and weep.

I am confident that there are many more of these suspensions . Most, like my son's, have yet to make it to the media. In speaking with attorneys, I have learned that these suspensions are reaching alarming levels.

The "Pastry Gun Suspension" has already started a cry for the enactment of legislation by Senator J. B. Jennings.

Senate Bill 1058 (The Reasonable School Discipline Act of 2013) was created by Senator Jennings to eradicate these issues in Maryland.

This is exactly the type of legislation we need here in New York to protect our children, our guns and our rights.

A good place to start is Senator Flanagans office. This occurred in his district. His phone number is 631-361-2154. His contact information can be found here http://www.nysenate....lanagan/contact

  • Un fortunatly for this individual, he will never get his guns back. There will always be an excuse for why.

  • I dont get how weve let these people in authority get so out of line and CRAZY! Im so glad i dont have kids! Every single parent needs to goto parent/teacher meetings and school board meetings and DEMAND this stop! This country is going to erupt real soon and thats what theyre waiting for. As soon as it happens, martial law will be enacted and then God help us
    • Which is exactly why we need to keep cool heads, watch our words and bring in as many as we can before violence breaks out...because it will.  PLEASE don't interpret that to mean hide our heads in the sand and don't say anything anti-anything. If we want to win we must be clear thinkers and speak softly while carrying a big stick.  If we lose our tempers, start calling names and threatening we will have lost our opportunity.  Did anyone watch the riots in Greece?  That's what anarchy looks like.  This nation is going to erupt into violence and if it is because of us or we are a part of it, we will have lost all credibility, ethical and moral principles...what the founders had...why they won the revolution.  We must stand above the others.  That's why it concerns me so much when I see members calling names and spouting "threats".  That's what the other side does.  Have you ever tried to reason with a liberal?  And if we fall into that trap of anger and hatred....tell me then, how can we restore this nation?

  • WHAT NEXT???

  • That's NY for ya.

    • The obvious question here Don....Why doesn't he JUST MOVE from NY?

Last heard we are still free to move about the Country.  Texas could be an option......Instant pay raise from no longer paying the highest State Income tax in the Naton and firm believers of our 2nd Amendment rights.

      just sayin'

  • Just because we have ultra wacko legislators, etc in CA doesn't mean most Californians want what they've been passing!! We don't. There s just too many trying to avoid being un-PC. Very frustrating to those of us who value the American way!!
  • The SS issue re overriding Sheriffs' jurisdiction is unconstitutional, both state and federal. It doesn't deserve discussion, only noncompliance.

And, if I were traveling anywhere west, I'd make a point of driving AROUND Colorado, so there'd be no temptation to stop while driving through, even for a slushy on a hot day.
  • Absolutely agree with you!  And...already thought of it...even Amarillo and many, many other places will have hoards of people...not only those on foods stamps/welfare but hardworking people living hand to mouth with only a day or so worth of food...will be seeking help from their neighbors, friends and soon thereafter, anyone.  Probably many will be nice at first but when their own bellies and those of their children have gone days without much of anything...grass or leaves if they can find it in Amarillo...will do anything to survive.  We've seen it before, haven't we....God forbid...people even eating their own children.  People will follow the main roads, interstates and state highways looking for food, something to survive.

But, maybe I am an old person who thinks just a little different than you.  First, I am a Believer in God, Father of Jesus the Christ.  I have the hope of things eternal.  So if I die, I know where I'm going and if death is painful and messy it can't be too much worse than what Jesus suffered for me and I won't be separated from the Father while it's happening.  With that stated, I will not allow myself to feel doomed!  If I do, what good will I be?  I will discourage others who have far more to lose than I...I'm old, remember?  And...isn't the new focus of this group getting prepared?  Isn't that why we are meeting in May?  Surely not to sit around and mope and cry out "Oh, woe is me!"  All of us need to have our own plans....our own "rabbit hole".  God willing, my rabbit hole will house me, some of my family and friends who think like me.  We are planning on it.

Another thought...if only the old folks like you and me hide and survive while all the "young men" have been killed off, we are really in deep doo doo!  The old folks aren't going to live forever and surely our hope is in the young.  The ones that live with us.  The ones who have learned the truth and how it works. Etc.  The ones who have come to love the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Federalist Papers and freedom of conscience, morality, ethics, loving their neighbor, free enterprise....

Are you going to be at the meeting, Jager?  I look forward to meeting you.  If I had been a cheer leader in my youth, I would be bringing my uniform and pompoms.  We just gotta look up or, you are right, we are doomed.  People without a vision perish.  That's in Proverbs somewhere!  :-)

  • America has a problem identifying the enemy. The individuals going along with the head commie in charge (CIC) are commies and following orders. In WW2, Germans wore German uniforms, japs wore jap uniforms, now the enemy is wearing business suits and casual attire and blending in with society, as spies and traitors, heck, I bet they are even bus drivers who are commies. They came for his guns! WOW! Whatever happened to "cold dead hands?" America is sick! The cic is picking us off one at a time. Slow process but in ten years, let's hope the criminals love us.
