Who's the most responsible party for causing the economic issues happening across the country? AND, WHO'S responsible for creating roadblocks to any hope of economic sanity????

Maybe, just maybe, Americans will finally begin to see the damage that UNIONS have and are causing to any hope of financial responsibility on the part of local governments. Faced with bankruptcy, and severe employee cutbacks, many towns and cities have asked for a LITTLE help form volunteers, but to their surprise are finding that people are more than willing to step up and lend a hand, FOR NOTHING but the satisfaction of doing SOMETHING to help others! THAT IS WHAT THE AMERICAN SPIRIT IS ALL ABOUT!!!

But then comes the unions, the 'organizers', the so-called 'protectors' of the working people. Would they step up and offer their services? NOT A CHANCE! They want to cut it all off!!!! After all, it's cutting into 'their' peoples livelihoods (actually the union bosses pockets). Where a city, forced to cut back their maintenance force for cleanup and gardening service in their parks and buildings, received an outpouring of volunteer help to perform those tasks, the city employees union threatened law suits against the city unless the volunteers were prevented from using any kind of machinery or tools. A senior center, forced to cut back staff and days of service, and possible closure, has received an overwhelming response from volunteers doing everything from cooking meals, cleanup, transportation, and clerical work to assisting seniors with their everyday problems of life.

The union response.....'if our members cannot work there and get paid a 'living' wage, they should not be allowed to use volunteers'.

Another city, forced to lay-off 1/3 of their police officers, now have a force TWICE THE SIZE, as VOLUNTEER officers have filled the gap, and then some!

Volunteers save cities billions, but unions cry foul

  • The unions belong to the communists, who are owned by Satan.

    • You've got that right!   Communists- Satan = the same thing.

  • Unions were spawned out of intolerable and inhuman working conditions; conditions not created out of malfeasance but out of ignorance. The issues that the unions set out to correct have long since been institutionalized by federal law and federal agencies like the much despised OSHA organization.

Since the 1950's the unions have served one purpose and one purpose only - enrich the union bosses so that they can buy the communist government that they so desperately desire.

  • If these agencies have been forced to cut back on staff, then how can the unions say that volunteers are taking jobs away from their people?  THE JOBS ARE GONE...the work remains...

    Time to end union dictatorship...

Unions have killed the goose that laid the golden eggs.  Now it is their turn to feel the pain...

  • Volunteer anyway! The hell with unions and their thugs.

  • Unions are so easy to crush.  Simply no longer with hold union dues from the paycheck and make the employees (union members) write a check each month to the union.  Guess what?  Most people will want to keep the money.  Against the contract you say?  So what, they don't mind bending the contract rules, so why should you, the business owner.  I busted a union in a company I bought just this way.  I told them to go on strike, I didn't care because I would replace any union member who did not show up for their shift without a medical reason verified my our COMPANY doctor.  I had to replace about 10 people and the word got out.  People showed up for work and a few even wrote the union a check for about 4-5 months.  But then it was over.  Just like Reagan did the FAA, he just replaced them.  Works every time.  Bosses are just afraid, of what I do not know.

    • Retaliation.... I once belonged to an Operating Engineers Union, and things went great until I was asked to sabotage some non-union equipment. I told them I'd do anything for the union as long as it was legal.

Soon after my job(s) dried up.

  • UNIONS...they were needed at the beginning to make the big companies pay a decent wage to their employees.  Now we need to get rid of the tyrant Union leaders who are bilking the public and not doing anything for the employees they are suppose to be protecting.  Yet, they are in bed with the big companies, just like the CONGRESS.  NEITHER ARE DOING ANYTHING FOR THE COMMON CITIZEN.  THEY ARE USING OUR MONEY TO MAKE THEMSELVES RICHER AND MORE POWERFUL.  GREED has taken control of our nation.  The common citizen that works for a living is usually generous, caring, and willing to help others without pay or recognition. Our nation doesn't need anymore GREEDY People. What we need is a civil government that takes care of their citizens with laws and rules of justice so we do not need UNIONS OR A CONGRESS THAT CAUSE FINANCIAL DISTRUCTION TO OUR NATION.  CHANGES HAVE TO BE MADE.  BUT NOT THE KINDS OF CHANGES THAT OBAMA, CONGRESS AND THE UNIONS HAVE IN THEIR MINDS.  WE have to take CONTROL and STOP the GREEDY AND POWERFUL PEOPLE from destroying our nation.

  • My Daddy was a member of the Millers Union back in the 50's and 60's. He was a flour miller. It was good then, cause it got safer working conditions for the people.  He didn't get much more pay than other jobs in the area, but had the safer working conditions. When the mill closed he got a "withdrawal card" from the union.

Years later, shortly before he retired, he was working at a Purina Feed Mill in Springfield, Mo.  Union people started coming around and talking to the employees.  None of them had ever been in a Union, but knew that my Daddy had been.  They all knew and trusted Daddy so they came to him (employees) and asked him what he thought of them going union.  In the first place, he told them NOT to go with the BIG UNION that was trying for them.  He told them IF they really wanted a union, he would contact the Millers Union -- BUT__ he was less than a year to retirement, and he WOULD NOT WORK UNION. He told them that they all had really good and safe working conditions, and a fair wage and benefits. Also Purina had a great retirement that NONE of them paid into.  He said HE had a good thing, and wouldn't mess it up, but joining a union would be there decision, and he got a rep. to come talk to them.

Most of them finally joined, but he didn't and he retired with all the benefits Purina had promised him.  He felt in the Mid 80's the time for Unions was past. To him a "fair" wage, safe working conditions, and fair benefits, what was foremost on any job.  He felt they had all that and then some at Purina.

I know of one young man who didn't join the union.  How many others didn't  join, I don't know.  The one young man I know of didn't join cause he agreed with Daddy.  Purina had taken him right after high school (he was working sweeping floors), and paid 100% for his college including dorm fees and an allowance for food, misc.  He could never have gone to college without that help. Only obligation was that he work for them for 4 years after getting his Mechanical Engineering Decree. They had done this for others in years past also.

My Daddy was Foreman over Maintainence and trained this young man when he completed college, for a year before he retired.  He, as most of the guys, came often to visit with Daddy during the following 3 1/2 years til my Daddy's death.  After Daddy's death, they still came to see Mama, and when my Mama's car needed worked on, this young man did the repairs and wouldn't take a dime for it. He was still working (NOT IN THE UNION) far more than the four yrs he was obligated to work. Missouri is or at least was a, Right To Work State.  Which I believe all states should be, but not all are.

  • If I were the cities and other local government I would fire all the union workers who object to volunteers and put them on unemployment. Local communities can then use the volunteers who are interested in helping out.
