American Rhetoric : General Douglas MacArthur

"Let civilian voices argue the merits or demerits of our processes of government; whether our strength is being sapped by deficit financing, indulged in too long, by federal paternalism grown too mighty, by power groups grown too arrogant, by politics grown too corrupt, by crime grown too rampant, by morals grown too low, by taxes grown too high, by extremists grown too violent; whether our personal liberties are as thorough and complete as they should be. These great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution. Your guidepost stands out like a tenfold beacon in the night: Duty, Honor, Country."

  • YES!

  • For all its faults-- and no human institution can claim it has no faults-- our Military  still trains leaders. And the time is at hand when America needs great leaders--and men to follow them. I would follow Col. Allen West-- and /or Mr.Boykin ,now with the FRC. Or Col.Ronald D.Ray ,of First Principles (USMC Ret. ) Or that man who now leads Special Operations Speaks--or any these men would trust-for they have been tested lest I forget the honorable Roy S.Moore (Captain America) For in them I find no guile.

    • Couldn't have said it better.

  • I loved Gen Douglas M. He was one of a kind.

  • General MacArthur was fired by Harry Truman for speaking the truth...

I respect a lot of things that Truman did; however, firing the General was not one of his better ideas, and

    MACARTHUR WAS RIGHT....

  • I believe that General MacArthur's 1961 address to the cadet corp at West Point was given extemporaneously!!  He was a giant of intellect!!  You either loved or hated the man!!  He stood America in good stead on many occasions, in her hour of need!!  If you haven't read " American Caesar" by William Manchester your missing a great read!!!
