WHEN, not IF, a SHTF event happens, it will be widespread. But YOU are local. The Net will likely be shut down, or controlled at the very least. Learn how to be self-sufficient. Turn your utilities off for one hour and try to 'live normally'. Then, try it for a day. Then, for a week. This will teach you where your weaknesses are, where your strengths are, and will teach your children too. Try to do it at the same time with a neighbor. Help each other out. Get a ham or at the very least a C.B. radio, battery powered, solar charged.
One of the biggest 'control' techniques that a Tyrannical gov will immediately do is try to 'control' migration. They WILL set up 'Checkpoints'. We have seen this done throughout all of the history of the world. Look for them, ask fellow travelers where they are, and warn others about them.
At a checkpoint, they will immediately confiscate ANYTHING that they can construe as a weapon. They will confiscate any form of money. They will confiscate any radios. They might even confiscate your food. If the agenda is containment, they will turn you around and not let you pass. They will post agents before these checkpoints, disguised as fellow travelers. Don't trust anyone!
I seriously doubt that they will allow any vehicles of any kind through a checkpoint. Your best bet is to get a sturdy bicycle for each member of your family. Include a tire patch kit in one of your bug-out back-packs...they will put tacks in the road to flatten tires.
Gov checkpoints are already in place in many cities. Go to one of them and observe. Do not interfere...these people are deadly serious and will not take a good attitude about any kind of interference, and will likely try to ban you from filming them. Film them for study anyway. These are advertised in the newspaper in some cities. They are commonly called 'DWI' checkpoints. This is how they learn and teach each other the techniques that they will be using when a SHTF event happens. We too can learn about them, and teach others how they work.

Welcome to PFA Ralph. Thank you for your very informative post. . I like the training and learning now. In a real crisis it could be to late.
