The question is not, “Is America falling?” but, rather, “Why is America falling?”
I’m currently writing from CPAC 2014, the nation’s largest gathering of conservative political junkies. The event is being held at the beautiful Gaylord National hotel, adjacent to the scenic shoreline of the historic Potomac River. We’re just a few short miles from Washington, D.C., which, at least for now, remains the modern-day equivalent of the Roman Empire.
I say “at least for now” because America finds itself skipping along the primrose path to Rome’s ill-fated finale. I needn’t trouble you with evidence to that effect as this tragic reality is hopelessly inescapable. It’s a self-evident truth. Unless our next generation of leaders – Gen-Y Millennials – can successfully turn things around, we’re up the Potomac without a paddle.
The day’s speeches have ended, and conference-going night revelers are about. The indoor balcony to my 12th-floor room faces, as the hotel website accurately boasts, a “spectacular 18-story glass atrium.” My balcony door is open wide, and the bustling din from several parties across the cavernous vestibule soaks the room.
A chorus has begun. What is this? Have party-goers launched an impromptu rendering of “America the Beautiful”?
No, this is a chant, joined by scores – a hundred or more perhaps – of young conservative bacchanalians on multiple suite balconies and from the open air bar below. What is that they’re chanting? Is that, “Amer-i-ca! Amer-i-ca!”?
At first, it’s hard to tell. It’s a booming echo that reverberates throughout the entire hotel.
And then it becomes clear.
Alas, our next generation of conservative leaders are not chanting, “Amer-i-ca! Amer-i-ca!” They are, instead, chanting, “F**k O-bama! F**k O-bama!”
And I hang my head.
So, now, children at the hotel, parents, staff, tourists – both foreign and domestic – and every other conceivable variety of guest who happens to be staying at the Gaylord National hotel during CPAC 2014 has a skewed, and likely irreversible, first impression of America’s conservative movement.
Or is it skewed?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m certain that the vast majority of CPAC attendees, both young and old, are as appalled and embarrassed by these drunken yuck monkeys as am I.
But I think the very fact that these blazer-clad, Cro-Magnon morons could even imagine, for a moment, that it’s somehow cool to publicly chant “F**k Obama!” – or “F**k” anything for that matter – speaks to a much larger problem, not just within the conservative movement, but, more importantly, within our entire culture.
I’m never going to win a popularity contest. It’s not my goal to be liked. I’ll probably never be a “Fox News contributor” or even broadly recognized as a dutifully compliant cog within the greater, GOP-heavy “conservative” political wheel.
That’s because I say things like this: There is no political fix to America’s death spiral.
We are drowning in a turgid river of postmodern relativism. This is a spiritual problem, not a political problem. This is a worldview matter, not a partisan matter.
Hitherto it has been “progressives” alone dumping buckets of moral relativist poison into the Potomac. But, in the last decade or so, self-styled “conservatives” have likewise begun drinking the subjectivist Kool-Aid.
Libertine libertarianism has infected the conservative movement like a cancer. Situational ethics, driven by emotional, anecdotal sob stories, are used to justify every moral wrong as an absolute right. “Get off the social issues!” they demand. “Gay marriage? No problem.”
These gun-toting, free-market “conservatives” (of which I’m both) grace us with beauties like this: “I’m a ‘pro-choice,’ ‘pro-gay’ conservative,” or, “Yeah, I’m shacking up with my girlfriend, big deal.”
Relativism blurs the fixed lines of demarcation between right and wrong, which leads to the abolition of absolute truth, which leads to pockets of moral anarchy, which leads to Barack Obama and Eric Holder deciding which laws to ignore and which laws to enforce, which leads to lawlessness, which leads to chaos.
Welcome to chaos.
Yes. The “social issues” matter.
The battle is not Republican vs. Democrat. Neither is it conservative vs. liberal. The battle precedes time itself. The battle is right vs. wrong. The battle is moral vs. immoral. The battle is truth vs. the lie.
The battle is between good and evil.
We’ve been playing political Ping-Pong for decades. We’ve been, as they say, rearranging the chairs on the Titanic while Democrats take the helm for a spell, and Republicans take the helm for a spell.
The reality is that both political parties have driven us into the iceberg, and then pranced off together, hand-in-hand, to play best-of-three racquetball at the congressional bathhouse.
While here at CPAC, I met an interesting fellow by the name of Frank Mitchell. Frank founded the Memphis-based, classically conservative group “A Shining City on a Hill.” During our discussion, Frank said this: “There is no liberty without justice. Liberty without justice is only license.”
America cannot survive under a worldview that embraces unrestricted moral license. Such license destroys the individual. And such license destroys the nation.
“Liberty without justice is only license.”
There is only one Arbiter of true justice. And justice is defined by Him, not by us. He sets the parameters. As both individuals, and as a nation, we are ill-advised to breach those parameters and well-served to maintain them.
America does not need a political fix. America needs a spiritual fix.
Johnny, we think alike. "I rather you be hot or cold, but if you are luke warm "
I am going to go at this from a different angle since I read your comment about pastors(elders, bishops) ! The church has to catch fire and soon !
Fifty two of the fifty five Founding Fathers were active in their church. They poured a foundation of Godly Values upon which they constructed a Constitution interwoven with Biblical Principals and thereby bound and sealed by the Hand of God. Indeed our Founding Fathers were guilty of various transgressions; but their imperfections were not seeded into our Constitution. And regardless of what corruptions that has been within our Government, Godly Foundation and the Biblical Standards within the Original Intent of the US Constitution not only propelled America to become the greatest Nation upon God's Earth - but the greatest influence of the Gospel of Jesus Christ world wide.
Thereby, it is a Constitutional Emergency for a Spiritual Awakening in America. For although God is first and foremost, the US Constitution is our Law and Order. As exampled by the Israelites, who wandered in the wilderness without a country - yet they took with them God, the Law of God, and the Law of Moses. The US Constitution is founded upon God and the Law of God. And those in seats of authority who seek to bulldoze God and Jesus out of America, through ignoring and shredding our Constitution of Godly Values and Biblical Principles, are of such a vile Darkness that no Empire or Country throughout history has ever endured upon such Evil. Which is quite evident by the woes and miseries of an America on the very verge of complete and total collapse.
In our house we can destroy our furniture, break out windows, and tear out doors; but these can be replaced. We can even burn our house to the ground; but such can be rebuilt. However, should we allow the very foundation of our house to be destroyed, then no matter what we build will not stand. And by allowing Sodomized Socialism to unconstitutionally remove God and Jesus from our government, schools, work places, entertainment, and media / replace Traditional Marriage with sexual preference / and herd the church into a State Corral - there is absolutely nothing that we can build that will endure. For it is one thing to break God's Law, and another to attack with intent to destroy the seed of God's Creation.
Pre-ordained Grace, one man + one woman, be fruitful and multiply, family, and honor mother and father is the foundation of God's Earth, and the core so endowed by our Founding Fathers within the Original Intent of the US Constitution. These must stand, or America shall fall - and great shall be our collapse.
May 16th, 2014. A peaceful victory awaiting. A spiritual revival motivated by a spiritual warfare. No additional weapons needed, but prayer, faith, and acknowledgment of God's grace and protection.
What God said it was WRONG, they call it "RIGHT": Gay/lesbian rights, abortion rights, animal rights, environmental rights, etc.
God said if you want to eat, you must work. They stimulate free entitlements and discourage people from working.
God said He's the only true God. They say it is the oceans, the animals, the trees, the atmosphere, our planet.
God said: "Thou shall not kill". They invented the largest killing machine ever: abortion laws, and we pay the expenses.
God wants us to honor Him in every aspect of our lives. They expel God from all fed offices, public places, schools, etc.
God said "Thou shall not lie". They earned the "Lie of the Year" in 2013...and keep lying (IRS, Benghazi, F&F...)
And they invented Hollywood, MSM, Freedom From Religious Foundation, and many other societies to destroy our moral principles, dethrone God and indoctrinate the masses on their Anti-Christian agenda.
It's a Spiritual Warfare, nothing else.
And it can only be fought and won by spiritual means. People of Christian faith in action down at the center of this battle: Washington, DC. Even people of other convictions who love their country and the American way (the way it used to be) are indispensable to this cause.
I frequently utilize the terms Poly Tickens (of the Poly Tick family) and Poly Ticks as usual. Perhaps mistaken for mockery, pun or humor; but I certainly don't want to be mistaken by such choice of words. Politics is more than a chess game; but Politicians have become nothing less than harlots. They ooze from bed to bed, to fill their own pockets and drain America of its lifeline.
There are many ways for one die, or as such medically labeled; but the bottom line is, when the blood stops flowing, regardless of the reason, death follows. God is the Lifeline, Jesus is the blood, and when America looses the Sovereignty and Grace of God, the Nation shall die. Our Founding Fathers knew this, and tediously labored to give unto this Nation a Constitution of sovereignty paid by the blood of many as a price for our Freedoms. Our Founding Fathers were not God, nor were those who shed their blood a savior or redeemer. Yet the Godly Values and Biblical Principles within our Constitution would propel any Nation who adopted and maintained said Values and Principles to greatness.
Throughout the years, the Church has strayed and bears much of the burden for our plight. Yet, to a greater degree, the Church has overall still maintained somewhat of an awareness of God as Creator and Jesus as Savior and Redeemer. However, Politicians, on the other hand, have busily labored to place themselves above the Law - which is our Constitution. And have as well more busily labored to withdraw our worship and focus from God unto themselves as the only salvation for America.
Operation American Spring offers a breath of fresh air and hope for a fed up peoples in a dying Nation. Yet unification of we the people can somewhat be rather difficult, when there are those of ME the people who set personal agendas on a singular pedestal. Nonetheless, those of us who Stand upon God, Family, Constitution, Country need to continue an Example of Truth. For we do have a primary advantage over the Politicians: 78% of fed up Americans want all of the Representatives in DC out, and therefore there are a lot of keenly opened ears. Maybe we can't get the lame to walk; but we do have the ability to get many of the blind to see.
Very well said, Sir....
The pastors are supposed to warn the flock of the evils that lurk in our mist.
You are most certainly correct ! Shines a new light on the whole "elder ship" thing !
That voice was taken away in 1957 by a democrat.
Whose voice should be louder ??????????????
God's voice is whom I am rooting for, the truth that will set people free.
