Cruz to introduce constitutional amendment for term limits

Sen. Ted Cruz announced Friday that he will introduce a constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms members of the Senate and the House of Representatives can serve.

Cruz, along with Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., made the announcement in an op-ed in the Washington Post, and said their plan is a great way to implement President-elect Trump's plan to "drain the swamp." The proposal would limit members of the Senate to two terms, while members of the House would be limited to three terms in office.

"On Election Day, the American people made a resounding call to 'drain the swamp' that is modern Washington. Yet on Capitol Hill, we seem mired in the same cycle of complacency," wrote the pair of conservative lawmakers. "The game hasn't changed, and the players remain the same. Thankfully, there's a solution available that, while stymied by the permanent political class, enjoys broad public support."

"Passing term limits will demonstrate that Congress has actually heard the voice of the people," they wrote. "We believe that the rise of political careerism in modern Washington is a drastic departure from what the founders intended of our federal governing bodies. To effectively 'drain the swamp,' we believe it is past time to enact term limits for Congress."

Agree on Convention of States ,doubt politicians vote themselves out of a career job..

Whether the swamp-dwellers want it or not,if the incoming admin can put it on a public ballot 2 yrs from now,I bet then it'll pass big time.No more lifetime blood-suckers.

That would probably be the best way to go but both parties would decimate so much false info that many of the electorate would be fooled by their lies, 75% of the electorate are STUPID anyway.

That would be the best route..there are downers and uppers with a Convention..that is for sure.

Won't happen. Only an Article V Convention of states can pull this off. Congress weill never consider passing an amendment recommending term limits.

That is very true for it does not align with getting richer and richer at our expense.  It only takes one term, two or six years, to get lifetime kudos and salaries.  I do not see that is the legislation being written, how about the rest of you?

Agree with you, Lee.  Self-serving posturing, pure and simple - they KNOW this will not pass.

Doesn't he always...he is a GS affiliate as his wife is a high ranking officer of same.  Bolton is being looked at as under secretary of state..that is a surprise.

Sure he does...he is a globalist...

We really need term limits, two terms and your out.

Same limits that Congress put on the POTUS in 1951. 2 terms or 10 years which means Senators can only serve one ELECTED term. Include in the Amendment that any member of Congress cannot act as a lobbyist within 15 years of leaving Congress.

Don't think 2/3's of congress and 2:3's of the house will vote against themselves. Think will need 2/3's State Represenatives to do this.
