"Michigan conservatives need to know the facts before they vote for new leadership this weekend! We see this happening all over the country now and the Tea Party is at the root of this problem. Truth hurts, but it must shine on!"
J.B. Williams
In a mailing to Michigan GOP delegates heading to the state GOP convention this weekend, local Tea Party Patriots leader Gene Clem opened with - “I am recommending Robert Schostak to you as the next Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party (MRP).” - calling upon fellow Michigan GOP delegates to support Schostak and his bid to become Chairman of the Michigan GOP.
Clem goes on to make a very important statement in his missive to fellow Republican Delegates – “Let me be clear: the Tea Party Movement (TPM) is not a part of the Republican Party. The TPM has many Independents and Democrats who would never join the Republican Party. The Republican Party is the chosen tool of the TPM to elect government officials. You must understand that relationship.”
The reason Clem wants to be so clear, is his candidate for head of the Michigan GOP is not Republican, or at the very least, he is certainly not a “constitutional conservative” like Clem and other Tea Party Patriots claim to desire in office.
In the 2008 election cycle, Robert “Bobby” Schostak not only gave thousands to Tea Party nemesis John McCain, he also gave generously to several key Democrats that make the list of the Tea Parties top political targets…
Nancy Pelosi (D) California
John Kerry (D) Massachusetts
Frank Lautenberg (D) New Jersey
Mark Udall (D) Colorado
Jack Reed (D) Rhode Island
According to all known Tea Party propaganda over the last two years, the Tea Party is for smaller government, fiscal responsibility, secure borders and constitutional conservative principles and values. On this basis, why would “conservative” organizations like Tea Party Patriots and icaucus support a GOP leader who supported known hardcore leftists like Pelosi and Kerry in the last election cycle?
The answer might be easier than you think. From 2008 thru 2010, Schostak also gave tens of thousands to the fledgling Michigan Republican Party, greasing the path for his bid to take control of the Michigan State Republican Party.
From a February 2009 Michigan Republican Party press release – “Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser announced the appointment of Robert Schostak as the party's new finance chairman. Schostak has an extensive background in campaign fundraising strategies, previously assisting United States Senator Spencer Abraham, Gubernatorial Candidate Dick DeVos, and 2008 Presidential Candidate John McCain.”
Schostak’s campaign giving pattern is that of a politico buying a seat at the big boy table, spreading his wealth around both political parties as he searches for a way in the door of party power somewhere. I get what he’s doing and why… but why would this type of individual draw the endorsement and support of Tea Party Patriots and sister organization Freedom Works, or constitutionally conservative candidate vetting group icaucus?
Why would a Tea Party organizer like Gene Clem work so hard to support a GOP Chairman that supported Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and John McCain in 2008?
“We are two concerned citizens who have given two years of our lives to the current struggle for the restoration of our republic. I am proud to march at Bobby's side for the next two-year fight.” - Said Clem, in closing his campaign pitch for Schostak.
Last December, Tea Party Express darling, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann was in Michigan offering up her special brand of political rhetoric. Bachmann was in the state to stump for Robert ‘Bobby’ Schostak and his bid to become the chair of the Michigan Republican Party.
So, let me see… Schostak was hand-picked by new Governor Snyder? – and…
Southwest Michigan Tea Party Patriots, Tea Party Express, Freedom Works, icaucus, Gene Clem and Michelle Bachmann all support Robert “Bobby” Schostak for Chairman of the Michigan GOP, who supported Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and John McCain in 2008?
Seems at least some real Michigan conservatives find this a bit odd as well – “Now that Michigan has a choice for the GOP chairman position, I would like to ask everyone who might be voting at the Michigan GOP convention on Friday, to support Troy Rolling. He’s not part of the existing Michigan GOP party and that, my friends, is his BEST ASSET. Let me tell you a few things about the current powers-that-be in the Michigan GOP.”
RightMichigan.com states – “The biggest complaint that people talk about are Schostak's connections to Democrats like Al Gore, John Kerry, Carl Levin, Debbie Stabenow and Jennifer Granholm.” This is a race for leader of the GOP, isn’t it?
My how the stomach turns inside today’s political Tea Party wrestling match for power. Funny what money can buy, huh?
As Gene Clem said in closing his pitch for Democratic Socialist financier Schostak, – “Do your own research. Take any opportunity you may have to speak to Bobby and make your choice based the best information available and your knowledge of the man.”
Get to know your fellow Tea Partiers a little better too… a Republican Party of non-republicans… hmmm, only a Democrat would have come up with that!

Permalink Reply by Harry Riley on January 27, 2011 at 2:50pm Michigan better wake up.............there is no party litmus test for a candidate but PFA will not indorse a liberal......TPM nominating a candidate that supported Pelosi??? I can tell you, the Michigan TPM is not a grass roots conservative movement that is fighting for constitutional restoration, republic princiiples, and Founding Father vision by indorsing a Pelosi, Kerry, Reed, et al philosophy.
I reject the Michigan TPM nomination of Robert Schostak for GOP leadership.........
Permalink Reply by Darlene Littlejohn on January 27, 2011 at 3:00pm Frank is correct... iCaucus did NOT endorse anybody for the MI State GOP leadership. I put together a list of links and posted them at the website of The Tea Party of West Michigan. The TPofWMI did NOT endorse anybody either. My discussion there is for information only:

Do you know Mr. Gene Clem? Do you approve of him talking for the tea Party of Michigan?
and do you approve of him using the database base of the state GOP to do so?
Permalink Reply by Timothy J. Harrington on January 27, 2011 at 3:29pm Mr. Anderson,
We do our home work at Patriots Union, The research and links are clear in the writing of Mr. Williams. Actually we emailed ICaucus prior to the column and asked the questions of Don. We also asked if he would mind if he was quoted. In the end, he was not but I will attach his response to Mr. Williams.
looking at some of the thing that went on before the mid terms, especially in this part of the country where you were involved and new what was going on I am beginning to wonder about the purpose of your organization and it's true direction.
Here is a response from Don who represents your organization. I will paste below.
"No, not officially. We don't endorse for state party offices. Several of us have researched him and talked with him and believe he is a reasonably good candidate. Better than Rolling. We extracted some promises that he would run fair meetings, welcome participation by liberty-minded delegates, stay neutral in primaries and back conservatives in the general. We are cautiously optimistic. Trust, but verify."
Don
The "Him" we are talking about to include Don is, Mr. Schostak....... Some one needs to explain to these folks here and the other readerships what you realy represent when you aid candidates of an opposing party to take control of a state in the opposite party. Where just asking, Do the folks in Mich. know this and have you let them know publicly?
Has the Tea party just turned into a free for all to whom ever has the most money?
Timothy Harrington,
I appreciate the value of you doing your research, but your research is incomplete.
iCaucus has an extensive vetting process, and Mr. Schostak has not asked to go through it and no one has gone through it. I oversee that vetting process, I would know if there was an endorsement here or not.
To receive our endorsement, a candidate must:
1 - Answer our 80 vetting questions, and answer a minimum of 70% affirmatively. (Mr. Schostak has not done so)
2 - Undergo a recorded interview conducted by local members, and that interview must be posted online for eeryone to listen to without any filters. (Mr. Schostak has not undergone an interview)
3 - Be approved by a 70% vote of iCaucus members. (No vote has been put out, no vote has been taken)
You can find our endorsed candidates on our website, icaucus.org, and you will not find Mr. Schostak there or anywhere else.
Actually, you will not find any candidates endorsed yet, because we are in the midst of reviewing our vetting questions for 2012, and no one anywhere in the country has undergone any vetting or r eceived our endorsement with the exception of State of Virginia assembly candidates....and the only reason Virginia is an exception is because their State Legislative elections are in 2011, not 2012.
You stated that the research and links are clear in Mr. Williams writings. I did not find one in his writings that shows an iCaucus endorsement of Mr. Schostak.
Thanks,
Frank Anderson

Permalink Reply by Timothy J. Harrington on January 27, 2011 at 4:36pm Frank, isn't this "vetting" process the one you used to "vet" recruit and endorse Steve Mobley from outside of the Republican Party, who then aligned with the old GOP guard to defeat the work of all local conservatives who would have otherwise taken conservative control of that county GOP.
1 - Answer our 80 vetting questions, and answer a minimum of 70% affirmatively. (Mr. Schostak has not done so)
Then why has your state rep already talked openly of the best pick would be Mr. Schostack ?
2 - Undergo a recorded interview conducted by local members, and that interview must be posted online for eeryone to listen to without any filters. (Mr. Schostak has not undergone an interview) So are you blaming the Michigan tea party for this and Clem ?
3 - Be approved by a 70% vote of iCaucus members. (No vote has been put out, no vote has been taken)
Is this not you and the rep's who have already helped so much in Michigan or do the tea party leaders in Michigan get the hit for this too?
Just me,,,,,,,, this is not so good any way you look at it, Frank,,,,,,,, word smithing is no fun.
Timothy Harrington wrote: "Frank, isn't this "vetting" process the one you used to "vet" recruit and endorse Steve Mobley from outside of the Republican Party, who then aligned with the old GOP guard to defeat the work of all local conservatives who would have otherwise taken conservative control of that county GOP."
First of all, we don't care about parties. We endorse candidates who stand by the principles of "Fiscal Responsibility through Adherence to Constitutional Authority" and what party they belong to means nothing to us.
That being said, all of the candidates we endorsed who won their elections happened to be Republican, because very very few Democrats stand up for those principles. We have endorsed 4 Democrats since 2008...but all 4 failed to win their primaries because Democratic primary voters have tended not to like the Democrats who stand up for those principles.
Second, yes, this vetting process is the one we used for all of our candidates, including all of the ones who were elected in Michigan and elsewhere.
It is the same vetting process that has been endorsed by the Patriot Action Network (formerly ResistNet), and by Stephani Scruggs the National Co-Chair of The 912 Project (The912Project.com), and by Ron Paul's Economist Peter Schiff, and by the National Center for Constitutional Studies (the publisher of "The 5,000 Year Leap"), and by the Unite in Action council that put together the March on DC the last 2 years and who spotlighted all of our endorsed candidates there, and by Bob Basso (Thomas Paine)
Here's a link to the list of candidates who were vetted through our vetting process....do you see any of these candidates/representatives here who are anything other than fiscally responsible and committed to Constitutional Authority?
http://icaucus.org/endorsements/2010-representatives
As for Steve Mobley, he was an iCaucus endorsed candidates in 2010, after he applied to be vetted and after 70% of Michigan members voted for him, but I'm not sure what Mobley has to do with Schostak, nor do I know how to answer what you are asking about whatever county GOP you are referring to. I live in Utah, not Michigan.
Regardless, the vetting rules for Mobley were the same as the vetting rules for all of the other Michigan endorsed candidates, and I don't think you can find a non-constitutional bone in any of them:
Justin Amash - Michigan
3rd Congressional District
Tim Wahlberg - Michigan
7th Congressional District
Ruth Johnson - Michigan
Secretary of State
Patrick Colbeck - Michigan
7th State Senate District
David Robertson - Michigan
26th Senate District
Dave Hildenbrand - Michigan
29th State Senate District
Dave Agema - Michigan
74th State House District
Tom Hooker - Michigan
77th State House District
Kevin Cotter - Michigan
99th State House District
Ray Franz - Michigan
101st State House District

Frank I was on the BOD of UIA. We only planned one March on DC and that was for 2010. I asked to be removed from the Board after the MOD. There were many groups that were suppose to be a part of UIA however, many, I'll even go further and say most that were suppose to be part of UIA and help, many did not. They would occasionally show up on our Saturday round table meetings, but only to push their agenda or fund raise. Many made promises of duties they would fulfill which they did not even have any intentions on fulfilling. One can only come to the conclusion that some groups were only involved for underhandedly sabotaging the MOD 2010 event. I know for a fact two groups did exactly that. I learned one hell of a lesson during my time on UIA and our year of planning the MOD for 2010. There are some well known National groups that claim to be for restoring/preserving our Constitutional Republic, but, they are not. If anyone wonders what groups I speak of, ask for transparency of all groups tax returns and follow the money. Also talk with an accountant or lawyer and ask them how groups and orgs hide where monies come from or where they are spent. There is where you will learn your answers for yourself.
Before donating to any group, I definitely recommend vetting their financial statements.
You might be surprised as to what your donated funds are used for.
