Constitutional Emergency

Big Government

Last Thursday, Breitbart News' Mike Flynn broke the news that the Obama campaign was suing in the swing state of Ohio to block a law that extends early voting for members of the military for an additional three days. A fierce battle erupted, with Democrats (and a few conservatives) arguing that Obama campaign was simply trying to extend the military's privilege to everyone else. Regardless of the remedy they seek, Flynn points out, they are suing to end an exemption for military voters. It would not be the first time Democrats--who pretend, in their fight against voter ID, to want more ballot access--have tried to stop the military's votes from counting.

In 2008, for example, the State of Virginia (a critical swing state in 2012) had failed to send absentee ballots to members of the military on active duty in time for them to complete the ballots and return them before the election. When the campaign of Republican nominee Sen. John McCain sued to compel the state to count military ballots that had arrived after election day, the State Board of Elections--then run by Democrats, appointed by a Democratic governor--argued, effectively, that it could send absentee ballots to the military a day before the election and still be in compliance with the law. As RedState's Soren Dayton put it

...the Democratic Chairwoman of the Virginia State Board of Election (appointed by the Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine, in his capacity as Virginia Governor) Jean Cunningham just claimed a legal basis for massively raising the barrier to voting for soldiers at war.

The Department of Justice (then still run by fair-minded appointees of George W. Bush, and not yet part of the Democrats' voter-fraud-and-intimidation-machine) replaced the McCain campaign, which faced problems of legal standing, as plaintiff in the lawsuit. Eventually, the federal court ruled that Virginia had indeed violated federal law--but that the number of missing votes would not have changed the outcome of the election.

Meanwhile, in the swing state of Ohio, Democrats had done everything they could to bring apparently fraudulent voters to the polls in 2008. When early voting began, they took buses and rounded up homeless people--some from as far away as Chicago, allegedly--and brought them to the polls. Then-Ohio secretary of state, Democrat Jennifer Brunner, turned away Republican poll observers, virtually enabling the Democrats' shenanigans to take place.

When Democrats sue to remove an exemption designed to give military voters an equal chance of being counted, they claim they are only acting in the interests of fairness. When Republicans support for voter ID laws--laws supported by large majorities, even among black voters--the left cries "racism," claiming that Republicans want to suppress the vote of those most likely to vote Democrat. It is a sadly typical act of leftist projection--for is is Democrats, not Republicans, trying to make it more difficult for a particular group to vote because that group tends to vote for the opposition.

Since Flynn's story broke, the Romney campaign weighed in to support those facing down the Obama campaign's army of lawyers. "I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I'm entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I'll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them," Mitt Romney said

Yes, counting the ballots of a reliable Republican voting bloc is good for Romney, politically. But it is also in keeping with the measures taken by nearly every state in the Union over the past two years to make voting easier for soldiers, who have done so much to fight for the right of strangers to vote in hostile lands.

Barack Obama, who once claimed he supported gay marriage because of the soldiers "fighting on my behalf," evidently cannot be bothered to defend those same soldiers' right to vote.

Lawsuit in Ohio by the Obama Campaign Fails to Appreciate the Challenges Associated with Military Voting

Statement from Eric Eversole, Founder of Military Voter Protection Project

WASHINGTON – The Obama re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Ohio Democratic Party recently filed a lawsuit in Ohio arguing that there are no significant differences between military voters and civilian voters. That claim is being made because Ohio’s military voters are being afforded three extra days of early voting before the election.

In response to the lawsuit, the Military Voter Protection Project (MVP)’s Founder and Executive Director Eric Eversole released the following statement:

“We are deeply troubled by the arguments being made by the Obama campaign and the DNC. While the campaign may wish to expand voting opportunities for other voters in Ohio, it shouldn’t do so by ignoring or diminishing the tremendous obstacles faced by military voters.

As President Obama often acknowledges, our military members and their families have made tremendous sacrifices. These military members are constantly on the go moving from one duty station or temporary duty assignment to the next. Many military voters do not know where they will be next week, let alone three months from now when the rest of America votes.

In light of these challenges, Congress and many states like Ohio have undertaken significant efforts to promote and protect the voting rights of our men and women in uniform. Ohio and its Secretary of State, Jon Husted, have done a tremendous job of eliminating obstacles and providing military voters with a full range of voting options. These efforts have made Ohio one of our All-Star states.

While some may question the need for such efforts, most Americans recognize that duty is not an optional exercise. When America calls, our military members have answered that call without fail. Ohio’s military voting laws simply recognize the unique nature of military service. The state should be applauded for its efforts, not made to be a defendant in a lawsuit.

The Democrat Party has proven time and time again that they don't give a damn about America or its Vets.  Obama did not accomplish one worthy accomplishment in his entire term.  From Day 1 he has done two things.  The first is to Sell out America to our enemies, and two, one continuous campaign to get his sorry rearend reelected.  There has not been one president in our history as bad as this guy.  Benedict Arnold would have made a much better president.  The Little Dictator and his entire party need to be shown the door, along with 90% of the weak-kneed, yellow-livered, sorry excuses for Americans in the Republican Party!

The democRATS are all for the illegal vote, but not for legal citizens that are willing to cut their lives on the line for their country.

Steven,

I've been watching this for the over 23 years my kids been in and it's been the normal way for dems, they take for granted the military vote will go primarily to the repubs so they've even been caught putting out memos and emails detailing how to disqualify the military vote.

It is time for the patriotic military to rise up and save this country.  They have the know how and power.  Retired patriotic military leaders where are you?  Will you rise up to lead us?

We need to see if elections are allowed to happen. Otherwise, they give b o and the cabal the right to declare "Martial Law" and not only set aside elections, but with recent executive orders basically takes over EVERYTHING in the nation!

Our Founders foresaw a nation where the ballot box replaced the gun and sword to change the direction of the nation. We need to keep praying and watch to see whether their vision is still possible!

Obama: ‘Muslims are a Fundamental Part of the American Family’

The United States is not at war with Islam as some extremists claim to justify their violence against the West, President Barack Obama said.

Obama, speaking at the U.S. Defense Department’s National Defense University in Washington, referred to various terrorism threats and how some are fueled by extremists saying Islam is in conflict with the West.

“Most, though not all, of the terrorism we faced is fueled by a common ideology — a belief by some extremists that Islam is in conflict with the [...]

Sweden Burns for the Fifth Straight Night

In Rinkeby a predominantly immigrant district in northern Stockholm, firefighters rushed to put out flames that engulfed six cars parked alongside each other. Five cars were totally gutted, and one sustained more moderate damage, according to an AFP photographer on the scene.

The continued vandalism left local residents irate, with hundreds gathering at the scene to express their frustration.

“People are furious; they think Rinkeby is better than this,” Scanpix photographer Fredrik Sandberg told the TT news agency from the scene.

Three more cars were [...]
