Washington (CNSNews.com) – U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard, could not say where the U.S. Constitution authorizes the federal government to be involved in primary and secondary education.

 

On Thursday, after a House subcommittee hearing, CNSNews.com asked Duncan, “The Bill of Rights says that powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution are reserved to the states and the people. With that in mind, Mr. Secretary, where specifically does the Constitution authorize the federal government to be involved in primary and secondary education?”

 

 

Duncan dodged the question. “We are obviously a small percent of overall funding--you know about 10 percent," he said. "The vast majority of funding comes at the local level--state and local level. But we have a responsibility to support children who have historically not had those kinds of opportunities--disadvantaged children, poor children, homeless students, children who are English language learners and, more recently, we’ve seen a tremendous amount of reform from the department.

 

"We have to dramatically improve the quality of education we are providing this country and we can help to continue to reward excellence and encourage at the local level,” Duncan said.

 

According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Education spent $106.9 billion in fiscal 2010.

The same goes for all the Departments with the exception of the Department of Defense, that is covered under the Constitution as needing Naval Forces to defend the sea lance and commerce at sea. The Army was tacked on after the War of 1912.

AS a taxpayer, even though I don't have kids it is in the best interests of our youth to attend the local school board meetings, listen, pay attention to what is being addressed and make your voice heard.  YOUR tax dollars are at work.  But the question is for whom?  Politicians and their personal agendas!  Please get involved!

I encourage ALL Americans to see the documentary movie, "Waiting for Supermen".  It brings a lot of insight into why educating our children has ben made impossible.  Ronald Reagan said he would put an end to the dept. of education; if he couldn't do it, I doubt we will see ANY president willing to do what is necessary.

The department of education's mission is to not expose the children of this nationto an education that would threaten them in the future (the governing eliet). That is where the serario of dumbing down education was derived.

The government insiders can not tolerate nor can they afford to have too well educated people. This leads to free thinking and  the government's internal elite can not tolerate this. A free thinking person is more dangerous then any 10 middle class worker educated in the system spanned over the last 40 years.The NEA set up to control education and has escalated in  the last 20 in to almost a mind mill.

The idea of education is a buracery that controls a number of entitled people paid for by the tax payers. The students are like a commodity, and can be used as a bargaining tool for leverage to maintain the status quo.No one wants to see a child not get an education.

No one wants to leave a child without an education but we can not afford to continue to have them educated selective.

Note that Osama's kids, like those of every president since Carter attend Sidwell Friends School.  Located on Wisconsin Ave. in NW DC it has been the school for the children of the chosen elites for years.  It is far too expensive for middle-class families to afford along with confiscatory taxes to fund the failing government schools.   Such schools are too good for the like of the rest of  us.

 

DC public schools are the most highly funded and absolute worst schools in the country.  Someone once observed, "It would be cheaper to send ALL DC children to private schools in taxi cabs than to keep them from being educated in the DC public schools.  How much does it cost?  Over $10,000 per student.  Waiting for Superman!

Am I the only one old enough to remember that Ronald Reagan -- when a candidate for the presidency, over and over again in his campaign rhetoric PROMISED to get rid of the  "twin does" that were cabinet positions created by James Carter?   Oh?  You do not know the "does"?   Those are the DEPARTMENTS OF EDUCATION and ENERGY!  IMO, ALL of Americas current problems -- and I use all literally, can  be traced to the fact that REAGAN  BETRAYED US WITH HIS PROMISES!   The socialists, the NEA, have used their powers to control the curricula in schools and colleges -- beginning with kindergarden and continuing  through the advanced degrees many of which receive grants IF the SUBJECTS are POLITICALLY CORRECT i.e., socialistic.  IMO, our population has, for the last 55-60 years, been deliberately dumbed down and purpously not taught to think critically.  Individualism has been given contempt and statism has been glorified.   We, as a Nation, are the products of our schools! 

 

Our dependence upon foreign oil is the direct result of the Dep. of Energy's refusal to grant permits to drill on American soils and adjacent waters.
