A new study looks at whether we can feed the world without destroying the Earth. The answer is yes, but how to make it happen is complicated, and will require big changes in the way we practice agriculture.

  • Genocide is not the answer.
  • Well Bill Gates called for death panels to decreas the population.  Agenda 21 calls for a population reduction of almost 600 billion.  Does any of this surprise anyone who is paying attention.  The govt. is bulldozing empty houses now making sure that single family homes are destroyed and according to agenda 21, people will have to move to their population centers.  It's all part of the plan to remake the world!
    • Christine, I hope you know what "rock salt" is and what it does when you load your gun with it.
    • You aint kiddin......all part of the plan!!!! shay armed, at least we can  go out with a bang!

  • OBAMA IS NOT HIS LEGAL NAME NOR IS HE A CITIZEN OF THE USA.....HIS CITIZENSHIP IS OF INDONESIA.  HE IS BACKED UP BY THE CIA...........THE NAZI GROUP NOT USA.

20/12 IS FOR REAL AND THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF ALL THE WARS AND VYING FOR CONTROL OVER OUR PEOPLE.

ALL GOVERNMENTS ARE DOING THIS...........PLAYING IN HARMONY  (SEE THE GEORGIA STONES)  90% OF THE WORLDS POPULATION MUST BE KILLED....PS...THE TERRORISTS IS US.

  • Overpopulation is THE ONE OVERIDING PROBLEM facing mankind today.  All others are brushfires.
    • NOT.

This Earth is designed to hold far more people than it has. Ask the Creator.

      • I don't know about the Creator but Greg is absolutely correct...the world's population could triple before anyone goes hungry because of the lack of food...availability of food is another matter...Deforestation is a myth...worse, a damnable lie. In the US alone we have today five times more forest area than existed when the first Europeans arrived here...and we have far great forest diversity than existed in nature prior to our expansion across the continent.

Ditto Europe...after each of the wars during the past 250 years that ravaged the land & cities, Europeans replanted and expanded their forests so that today more than half of Europe is mature, mixed forest land.

And while it is true that parts of the South American, primarily Brazilian rain forest has been cut down, the forest has been expanded into new areas so that the net loss is less than five percent of the original land area...

The whole carbon & greenhouse gas element in the story is just bogus...but Neo-socialist People's Radio will never abandon the 'climate change' scam...like the uber-liberal BBC which NPR emulates in every way possible, NPR is devoted to phony science.

And like Margaret Sanger, the racist, eugenicist, barbaric founder of Planned Parenthood, those who believe the population must be 'controlled' are simply wrong...well, not so much like Sanger herself...she was an evil person and a rabid Progressive...most people who believe in population control are simply victims of Progressive propaganda.

I've lived in Asia where hydroponic farms turn out food in massive quantities with very little 'environmental' impact...In the West where people eat meat more often than in Asia (although meat is now a major part of the diet, as opposed to up until 50 years ago when rice and a few veggies) that pasture land the report crabbed about is used for myriad purposes...and the corn & soy raised for livestock is not fit for human consumption...it is high protein animal fodder.

The whole report is Progressive swizzle and swindle...

So long as manmade fertilizers and water are available no one has to go hungry on this planet...but food supply is not the reason people in Africa, Asia and South America are starving: it is their cruel and greedy overlords who steal the food and resell it at extortionist prices...I've seen USAID foods, paid for and donated by caring Americans and the US government, stacked at several African ports where they were left to rot because US officials insisted that the foods be distributed for free to the people but corrupt bureaucrats demanded to have control or to be paid before they would give the food away, as we intended it to be.

In Afghanistan, I saw food and agricultural tools intended for poor people be taken by the local warlord and he doled it out to those who obeyed him...there isn't much we can do about that age-old practice but it sure is annoying.

Now, my last point...I don't want neighbors nearby so I own a good deal of land...but even if the US population doubled we would still have more open land and space between people than our European cousins...We can build in all three dimensions and we have the infrastructure to support even larger cities...but right now the crazed Obama Progressive have locked up those resources with the intent of making life here similar to the Third World...partly to pay us back for living large for so long but also in hopes of causing collapse of the current society then rebuilding according to their urban-based, totalitarian vision.

This crap pisses me off...I apologize for the rant...

        • THE "LACK OF FOOD" IS NOTHING BUT A PLOY....CREATED BY BEYER AND MONSANTO...AND THIS IS JUST TO WORRY US INTO BELIEVING THEM.(GOVERNMENT)
          • Merl...that lack of food mantra was created long before Beyer & Monsanto began patenting the plant genome. I remember hearing it when I was in college -- in a 'politics of South America' class taught by a psychotic beatnik manic-depressive...the propaganda may be more sophisticated today than it was at the end of the last ice age when I was an under-grad student, but it's just as false today as it was then...

I view GMO foods as a great boon to mankind...the only part of genetic hybridization that I object to is the 'suicide gene' Monsanto puts into its seeds so that planters can't propagate the following season from seeds taken from the current year's crop, which forces planters to buy fresh seed every year...

I plant two gardens each season...a legacy crop garden and a GMO crop garden...I always get more, bigger, better, more nutritious crops from the GMO garden...using less water, less fertilizer and less labor than in the legacy (also known as 'heritage') crops garden.

You are absolutely right about 'lack of food' being a ploy...but it is the Progressives who throw that nonsense out much more often than Beyer or Monsanto combined. Progressives are animals, beasts, tyrants in waiting...I despise them and their ideology.
