What they are proven to be are "Magnets for Mayhem." 2) We must restore our faith in the virtue of the people; Remember that there are millions of decent Americans for every truly evil individual. We, the vast concourses of good people, are the 1st line of defense, not the police who almost always arrive after the fact. 3) Cowards are deterred by the uncertainty of success which is why they always choose soft targets labeled "Gun Free Zones."4) A single Visible armed guard, like the Red-Coats with their white cross on across their uniforms, is just another easy target in asymmetrical warfare.  It is the idea that anyone could be armed - that uncertainty - not the effectiveness or training that is the actual deterrent. "We must show faith in the 'Virtue of the People' and modify or eliminate the "Gun Free Zone"  for the "Easy Target Zones" they are and these horrific acts will be stopped or at minimum be greatly minimized."Action:Send this simple message  to your Congressman, Senator, State representatives and your local School board. Easy to Google them.Further Discussion:Confiscating guns or reducing availability of larger clips is a feel good measure, always invoked by well meaning near sighted individuals, that are subsequently abused by Tyrants. Are we so arrogant as to think that our Founding Fathers were fools and that such tyranny could never come to modern America? Recall It was only 60 some years ago that the modern sophisticated nation of Germany fell into tyranny and not 30 kids, but millions upon millions died. Only a few years earlier, the democratic government registered, then limited, then confiscated the people's weapons - that's the pattern - you guessed it - for the safety of the children. Then, when the people were truly powerless and thus both mentally and actually passivated, unchecked evil  reared its head. That pattern has been repeated in a number of other countries where nation, even world wide, carnage makes last weeks terrible news take on new perspectiveThe right to bear arms in not about hunting or sports, it is about the people protecting each other - not the police. The people are the final protection of the nation form all enemies, both foreign and domestic.George Washington said, " A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. "Our founders expected that each citizen would be armed with the common weapons of the common solderer. Switzerland and Israel are good example of nations were each family would be expected to have not semi, but fully automatic weapons at home. In Utah, any honest citizen may carry a concealed weapon into a public school.
