  • You file the paperwork at the County Clerk office.  Depending on what you are interested in running for, you will need to collect signatures to get on the ballot.  The higher the office, the more signatures required.  I have several friends who have decided to run in the past couple of years and I think that filing and collecting signatures were the first steps.  This is how we do it in Michigan anyway.  Hope you decide to do it :)
