High School Forces Students To Stand For African-American National ...

by BC  http://im41.com/archives/author/admin Eyewitness News Online:

Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

Controversy fills the halls at a Kanawha County high school, Monday, after the principal cancels the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem.

Capital High School principal Clinton Giles refused to comment on camera about his decision to pull the pledge, he did say off camera, that he was trying to make a statement, after getting complaints he was forcing students to recite the pledge.

"My understanding is we had some calls from parents that students were being told that they had to stand and if they didn't stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, and I also believe they played the African American national anthem, then they were disciplined for that," explained Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Ron Duerring.

Duerring says that schools are required to say the pledge, but students are not required to stand and recite it. They have the option to remain seated. Giles told Eyewitness News that he does ask students to stand during the pledge, but they aren't forced to recite it.

"There is court case at the national level, supreme court level, federal and state that says you can't force any child to stand for any pledge of any kind," said Duerring.

Giles said in January of 101, he changed the rule at Capital, from giving students the option to sit or stand, to making them stand. He said the school has the power to structure the observance of the flag, and he's within his rights to make the rule.

After the complaints came to the superintendent, he took matters into his own hands, and cancelled the pledge and National Anthem all together, Monday morning.

"It shouldn't be all or nothing. People have the right to make a decision and when he does that, when he says you all have to stand, or none of you are going to stand, he takes away that ability to make a choice," said sophomore George Lilly.

"The law requires us to do the pledge so we have to follow through with what the law requires," Duerring said.

Giles said the pledge and National Anthem will return Tuesday. He said he's pleased with the response he got from students who were upset when they were cancelled...  Keep Reading

Here are the lyrics:

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered; Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou Who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou Who hast by Thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee. Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee. Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.[5]

  • Time to shut that school down and hang the administrators.

    • I'm right there with you Steven! What a bunch of nonsense. :(

  • When I was a  New York City school teacher, at every graduation they played the Star Spangled Banner and then the African American national anthem. I frequently commented that this was inappropriate since we are all AMERICANS under one God and in one country, but nothing changed. The school was run 98% by black militants very similar to what we see in the Obama group. So now we know who the true racists are, and the blacks can't refute their racism because we have statistics. Too bad it has come to this, but it is what it is. The progress made by Martin Luther King - and all of us for worked for the civil rights of blacks - has been set back by 100 years.

    • Hey well you know if you are black and say crap like "We need to kill some cracker babies" that is ok but if you are WHITE and refer to color (at this point refer to anything) you are a racist pig to the bone. Only WHITES are racist according to these people and the rest can NOT be. WOW! We are loosing our country and the Government is trying to start a race war and the schools are doing all they can to help him. We need to fire every teacher and start anew. Get rid of the Unions and demand these teachers teach REAL HISTORY and we need to demand the pledge and National Anthem. I had to say it in school and it didn't kill me or turn me into a zombie like the schools are doing today.

      • Sheesh! Whatever happened to our PRIDE in being Americans?

  • I didn't know there was an all Africa national anthemn!   How about standing for Germany....let's see....the words "something, something.......Uber Alles" come to mind right away.

  • African American National anthem????????   Just what the hell is that?????????  There is only one national anthem and that is the Star Spangled Banner!  Just 1 more reason to abolish the department of Education, aka the department of communist propaganda!  And that goes for the teachers unions.  We are paying for these public schools, so where is our input?  Why are these commie fascist controlling what is being taught at these PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT WE TAXPAYERS GET OUR TAXES RAISED EVERY YEAR FOR AND HALF THE SCHOOLS DOESN'T GRADUATE, DOESN'T SHOW UP FOR CLASS, OR TURN OUT TO BE SMART MOUTH PUNKS!

    • I completely agree Christine. Since WHEN has there been an African American National Anthem? NOT in my backyard!!!! I thank God that my grandchildren attend a Christian Academy.

      • It is good that your children can attend a Christian academy.  I think there are a lot of parents who wish they could afford a Christian academy for their kids, but they can't. Fortunately my kids are out of school, but my grandkids are not, and none of us can afford a Christian school.  I wish everyone who wants there kids out of public schools today, were able to do so.

    • AMEN! some of these children in high school can't even read!
