In a January 5, 1996 teletype to select FBI field offices, FBI Director Louis Freeh revealed that the Southern Poverty Law Center, the radical left-wing group run by civil rights lawyer Morris Dees, had an informant living in Elohim City. Elohim City is a white supremacist compound whose inhabitants have been closely linked to the Oklahoma City bombing.  And that informant was dutifully reporting to Bill Clinton’s FBI.[1]

It’s thanks to Salt Lake City attorney Jesse Trentadue that we have this information, which proves “the SPLC was engaged in an undercover role where they monitored subjects for the FBI believed to be linked to …Tim McVeigh.”  [2]

Upon being leaked a redacted copy of the Freeh teletype, Trentadue filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the full document and any other information held by the Oklahoma City FBI field office pertaining to the SPLC, specifically, “all documents about any connection between the Southern Poverty Law Center and eight named individuals from the OKBOMB and BOMBROB investigations or a white supremacist compound in Elohim City, Okla.”[3]

When the FBI declared no such Freeh teletype existed, Trentadue produce his copy and an enraged U.S. district court Judge Dale Kimball ordered the FBI to produce all responsive documentation. Though the FBI later admitted in response to Kimball’s order that some 340 documents had been discovered, the Bureau has been fighting the judge’s ruling that they be turned over ever since the 2005 filing.

A number of obvious questions surround the substance of Freeh’s teletype. Why did the Clinton Department of Justice want or permit the “assistance” of Morris Dees and the SPLC?  How much did the group’s informant learn while in Elohim City? What did he relate to the FBI, and was it as much as he told his boss Morris Dees?

During a 2003 press conference at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Dees “…confirmed someone from his organization was inside the white supremacist compound at Elohim City on April 17, 1995,” just 2 days before the Murrah building bombing.  “If I told you what we were doing there, I would have to kill you,” was Dees’ less than humorous response to a reporter’s question about the SPLC plant.

The SPLC is a virulently anti-militia, anti-gun rights, anti-conservative organization which has worked over the years to advance the causes of the radical left. That the Clinton FBI and Department of Justice allowed the group to participate in an undercover mission which should have been restricted to legitimate law enforcement agencies is ludicrous.

Morris Dees has steadfastly refused to discuss the work his agent did at Elohim City, his reasons for wanting the spy to be in the area, and the information the individual passed on to Dees just days, perhaps hours, prior to the killing of 168 people in the Murrah building.

A true cynic might suggest both Dees and his agent KNEW of the imminent bombing and did nothing to help prevent it, content that the deadly plot would provide years of “ammunition” for SPLC attacks against an American militia movement which had gained enormous support following the FBI/ATF outrages committed at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

Of course that would require a particularly cold blooded, murderous attitude be adopted by the radical left along with a despicable willingness to knowingly conflate the views of patriotic, Constitution-loving militia organizations with those of lunatic, neo-Nazi fringe groups.

And such dishonesty on the part of the far left hardly seems possible, now does it?
