The decision to nationalize American healthcare was overwhelming premised on one allegedly enormous number. This number was the number of persons who allegedly wanted, but could not afford healthcare. WE THE PEOPLE were told that this number was so large that nothing short of nationalizing American healthcare could handle the deluge of new persons to be insured.
Originally we were told this number was 16% of the American Population. When pressed, proponents of Obamacare were forced to admit that half of that 16% were folks who were simply exercising their then free market choice not to carry health insurance. This left 8% of the US population who allegedly wanted, but could not afford healthcare coverage. 8% of the US Population is approximately 24 Million. And the requirement of nationalizing American healthcare was premised on that large number. With that premise, Obamacare aka ACA was born. Now, one would hope that in a sophisticated and talented country like America, our government would use the same common business practices that American businesses use to assess the roll out of their own new products and services. And as this one number was the greatest premise for nationalizing American healthcare, an American voter might reasonably expect that the number of persons who previously allegedly wanted but could not afford healthcare, but who were now covered, would be the measure of the validity of the premises and also, the success of Obamacare aka ACA? To be sure, lots of numbers about Obamacare are available, but that number upon which Obamcare was so greatly premised, has been illusive. This despite this writer various research:
