Obama grants immunity to young illegals

As many as 800,000 will be given work permits, no longer face deportation

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.

The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was to announce the new policy Friday, one week before President Barack Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

SoCal Patriot Coalition condemns President Obama's mass Amnesty for Millions of Illegal Aliens

President Obama announced today that he is bypassing Congress and violating the U.S. Constitution by granting amnesty to virtually every illegal alien in the U.S. under the age of 31 with his “executive order”.  This essentially legalizes millions of illegal aliens and takes the additional step of granting them work permits at a time when over 20 million Americans are looking for work.

 

This is a blatant and unprecedented attack on all American citizens and workers, as well as legal immigrants who have waited years to come to the U.S. legally.  Illegal alien families have arrogantly defied U.S. law by not returning to their home countries, despite increased ICE enforcement by both the Bush and Obama Administrations.  They and their children have made the choice to stay here in violation of our laws.  Rewarding illegal behavior encourages more illegal behavior.  Obama’s rogue actions today represent a new level of dictatorial actions by an already law-defiant administration.

All Illegal aliens, regardless of age, are by definition present in the U.S. unlawfully.  Parents are responsible for their children under age 18.  They have the obligation to obey the law, especially foreign laws regarding entry, presence, and residence.  For Obama to grant blanket, mass amnesty to lawbreakers is not supported by law, nor by the majority of the American people who have stated clearly in poll after poll that they want our borders secure and our immigration laws enforced equally.

We call on Congress to take immediate legal and Congressional action to halt this illegal usurpation of Congressional authority by a rogue president.  Our Southern border remain wide open and are under daily attack by deadly Mexican drug and smuggling cartels.  Legalizing millions of foreign criminals in the U.S. puts all American citizens, as well as our economy at risk, and this action weakens our national security at a time of high foreign threats against our nation.

"This decision avoids dealing with Congress and the American people instead of fixing a broken immigration system once and for all," he said on Twitter. Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) argued correctly the Constitutional position, that changes of such significance are to be matters of legislation, residing as the sole responsibility of the Congress. At the very least, such a shift would require the approval of Congress. "We have representative government," West said in a statement, "and I think right now this shows that we're getting away from government that's based upon the consent of the American people, and we're starting to live under a rule by edict or Executive Order." The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the new policy Friday which allows "certain illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children to remain in the country." The beneficiaries are supposed to be held ineligible for U.S. citizenship, but they would be allowed to work and would no longer be candidates for deportation. These are elements of the so-called DREAM ACT which has been before Congress in numerous guises over the last several sessions – and which has never passed. "Our nation's immigration laws must be enforced in a firm and sensible manner," DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday in a statement announcing the policy. A definitive Fox News poll about the Arizona's Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, SB 1070 – taken before the case was heard before the Supreme Court, shows: 65% of voters favor the law, while 31% oppose it. 84% of Republicans favor Arizona's law, while 46% of Democrats do. A 51% majority of Democrats opposes the law. Independents favor the law by a 40 percentage-point margin, 67% in favor, 27% in opposition. 72% of voters who live in the West and 69% of voters who live in the Midwest approve of the Arizona immigration law, compared to 61% of voters who live in other regions of the country.  Another Quinnipiac poll taken April 11-17 found 62% favorable American voters – they strongly want the Supreme Court to uphold Arizona's immigration law. Only 27% of American voters want the Supreme Court to overturn Arizona's law. Since reports from the oral arguments look like Obama's lawsuit against Arizona was not well received at the U.S. Supreme Court and the state's law may well be upheld, Obama has clearly opted for a more tyrannical, direct course of action to win favor with Hispanic political voters through these new DHS rules! He does not have America's best interests at heart. He is a delusional narcissist with contempt for the Constitution and no regard for the rule of law. Amnesty by any other name… According to Senators Chuck Grassley and Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Obama administration inflated fiscal year 2011 illegal immigrant removal numbers with 20,000 removals from 2010 to make the numbers look better. Of the 397,000 illegal immigrants removed in fiscal 2011, 55 percent or 216,698 individuals were convicted of felonies or misdemeanors. Now, if we take apply that non-criminal 45 percent to the 300,000 illegal immigrants, whose cases are currently being reviewed under Obama's non-deportation guidelines, roughly 135,000 illegal immigrants will be given legal residency status along with work permits this year alone. OBAMA DECLARES CONGRESS IRRELEVANT IMPLEMENTS DREAM ACT DESPITE CONGRESS' OBJECTIONS What does it mean when a sitting President admits he knows the law, admits he does not have the authority to circumvent the law or congress....but does it anyway? Friday, Obama announced that even though a bi-partisan Congress has repeatedly rejected various versions of the DREAM Act, his Administration is going to implement the majority of the act anyway. Krauthammer: Obama's Immigration Policy Is "Out-And-Out Lawlessness"

"Beyond the pandering, beyond the politics, beyond the process is simple constitutional decency. This is out-and-out lawlessness. You had a clip of the president himself say months ago 'I cannot do this on my own because there are laws on the books.' Well, I have news for the president: The laws remain on the books, they haven't changed," syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said on "FOX News" tonight.

"He proposed the DREAM Act of which the executive order is a variation. He proposed a DREAM Act. The Congress said no. The Congress is the one who makes the laws. What the administration does is it administers law. And in fact, what it's pretending to do is to use discretion, that's what the Homeland Security Secretary said," Dr. Krauthammer said.

"This is not discretion," he said. "Discretion is when you treat it on a one-by-one basis on the grounds of extenuating circumstances. This is the declaration of a whole new set of criteria, which is essentially resurrecting the legislation that the Congress has said no to."

“And I think this is not how you run a constitutional Republic. This ought to be in the hands of Congress, and it is an end-run. What's ironic of course is for eight years, the Democrats have been screaming about the imperial presidency with the Bush administration, the nonsense about the unitary executive. This is out-and-out lawlessness. This is not how you govern. And I think that's the first issue that should be on the table," Krauthammer concluded.

I read this a few days ago, and just want to say for the record, this will not stand.  Reagan bowed to the ILLEGALS once before, as his gesture to a real comprehensive immigration reformation.  The Democrats, who were supposed to then allow passage of measures to stop the flow of Illegal-Aliens into America, did nothing to counterbalance Reagan's compromise.  What is going on now is exactly what Krauthammer says it is ..."Lawlessness".  The Citizens of The United States have already said our piece with regard to this type of legislation, when the Dream Act was trying to be "pushed" thorough congress by Sens. McCain, Durbin and Reid.  Just like California who decisively voted AGAINST Gay Marriage, when brought to a vote, Obama has again done the same maneuver...bypass The People, the Congress, and the Rule of Law to his own ends.  HEY MITT ROMNEY - CAN YOU HEAR ME - THIS CANNOT STAND!
