Democratic Rep. Al Green files articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump

Green’s move could force a vote on the measure this week, according to reports.

The Democratic lawmaker from Texas hopes to capitalize on the political chaos from Trump’s recent tweets in which he urged far-left members of Congress “to go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

Breitbart.com reports: “To condemn a racist President is not enough, we must impeach him,” Green said, according to NBC News. “This will be a defining vote.”

“What do you do when the leader of the free world is a racist? What do you do? Well, here’s what you do. You file a resolution condemning the president for racist comments directed at members of Congress,” Green reportedly said on the House floor.

He continued:

What do you do? You file articles of impeachment impeaching the President of the United States of America. These two things are not mutually exclusive. We can do this, condemn for the comments that have been made. And we can do this, impeach for the harm that the comments are causing to the society.

According to the articles of impeachment, Trump is “unfit to defend the ideals that have made America great.”

Green also released a statement Monday, detailing his position further:

The President of the United States is a racist, a bigot, a misogynist, as well as an invidious prevaricator. To say that Donald John Trump is unfit for the Office of the President of the United States is an understatement. He is unfit for public office, and if he displayed any of these behaviors in most private companies, he would be summarily terminated with haste.

I was not told to speak out on the bigotry emanating from the White House. I was compelled to speak out. I believe there is a moral imperative to look racism, bigotry, misogyny, and hate in the face and rebuke it; to convey to our children that this type of behavior is unacceptable and that these beliefs are not welcome in the United States of America.

This could amount to a nightmare for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who has repeatedly stiff-armed attempts to impeach the president, purportedly out of fear that it could jeopardize the Democrats’ chances of retaining the House in 2020.

While she has softened her tone, telling CNN’s Manu Raju in June that impeachment is “not off the table,” she has not acted beyond the rhetoric. In May, Pelosi said that Trump was “goading” Democrats to impeach him.

According to the Hill’s Whip List, 84 Democrats support impeachment.

This is Green’s third time forcing action on impeaching the president.

  • #1) Talk about being racist, This bastard is among the worse in the country.
#2) Al Green and Shelia Jackson Lee are both Obama style Communists. That places them squarely into the category of being enemies of America.
#3) Here's an interesting concept, maybe something to consider:

I ran across an interesting discussion. The idea is this: Trump is goading the dems into going ahead and impeaching him. The impeachment must start in the House of Representatives. Then it must get approved by the Senate. The House is so full of swamp rats it will pass with no problem. When it gets to the Senate, Trump has the right to call, put under oath and question anyone he decides will have any information. This is one way to get all the swamp trash into one puddle. They will be under oath and if they lie, they will go to jail or “deal”. He can start with the minor players and they will tell everything they know one way or another. The whole swamp nest will begin to be exposed with all its ties, outside players and leaders. It would take dozens of legal moves to get to this same favorable place. Trump could put together a good map of all te connections and financing and leaders with this one move. The legal identities can follow along behind him and start to jail all the trash he uncovers. The Senate will not approve an impeachment and Trump will have exposed the swamp trash and put most of them in jail.

#4) When does the shooting start?
    #5) Where is that #44?

  • House votes to kill Rep. Al Green's resolution to impeach Trump

The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to set aside a resolution by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, to introduce article of impeachment against President Trump – the third time the Houston-area lawmaker has taken a shot at impeaching the president, but the first since Democrats regained control of the House.

Lawmakers voted 332-95 to table Green’s resolution, which was widely opposed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other top Democrats worried that the measure would force vulnerable swing-district lawmakers into peril ahead of the 2020 elections. The bipartisan vote shelved any chance of bringing forth articles of impeachment against Trump in the near future.

"The president has committed an impeachable offense," Green said on the House floor earlier on Wednesday. "Yesterday, we condemned him for that. Today is our opportunity to punish him."

137 Democrats voted in favor of tabling the resolution compared to just 95 who voted against shelving it. Only one lawmaker, Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., voted present.

Instead of moving ahead with articles of impeachment, most democrats have appeared to prefer waiting to see if a stronger case for removal could be developed that would win broader public support, and they're eagerly awaiting next week's scheduled testimony to two House committees by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"With all due respect in the world for him, we have six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that the president may have engaged in," Pelosi said. "That is the serious path that we're on."

    • "Despite a lobbying effort by Trump and party leaders for a unified GOP front, four Republicans voted to condemn his remarks: moderate Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Fred Upton of Michigan, Will Hurd of Texas and Susan Brooks of Indiana, who is retiring. Also backing the measure was Michigan's independent Rep. Justin Amash, who left the GOP this month after becoming the party's sole member of Congress to back a Trump impeachment inquiry."
