In conjunction with a National Day of Awareness to Americas’ media outlets consider this supplemental activity. OR, this can be done at anytime Patriots gather. At the locations where patriots gather to protest, consider holding a “Shoe Toss” event to benefit local children and families.Participants in the “Shoe Toss” should buy a pair of children’s shoes and bring them to the event. Arrange with a local women’s shelter to be on hand to accept the shoe donations. If not, make arrangement to bring the shoes there after the event. You may also want to contact a local shoe store to see if they have excess or closeout inventory for donation or sale at cost. They may or may not want the publicity. For the event, have a large 3 by 4 foot sign with the initials of the various TV outlets or the names of the local newspaper(s). DO NOT USE their logos. Avoid any lawsuits for copyright or trademark violations.Instead, make a sign with the letters ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc. Have children make the sign if possible. Use colors. Be creative. In the middle of the sign, put a big bullseye. At the event, place the sign behind a large box to collect the shoes when tossed at the sign. The “Shoe Toss” makes several points:1. “Protesting” Patriots care about the children in their community.2. This is a donation to shelters who give the shoes to families in need. The media loves a shoe thrower! Remember the news coverage when the Iraqi journalist threw a shoe at George Bush?Video your event. Post the results. Try to follow up on the story beyond the donation.---The above text can be downloaded in the attached pdf.
