Many American Forward Operating Bases are experiencing food and water shortages.Sgt. Hill, whose name has been changed to protect his identity, has been in Afghanistan only a few months as part of the new troop surge into the country. The troops are mainly focused on training and promoting the Afghanistan army and police force. The training is the United States' attempt to "teach a man to fish," in the security department of the ever turbulent country, a country which is still undecided if it wants to break free from Taliban influence. With these larger issues at hand the need for proper amounts of food and water have fallen by the wayside.Initially it was expected that resources for surging troops would be low, as many bases were unprepared for the push ordered by the Obama administration. The surge, it is argued, was far too swift and did not give the military time to lay the proper infrastructure and provide housing and other amenities for the troops. The reality of the lack of preparation has been felt by Sgt. Hill and other troops currently in Afghanistan.Over weeks of correspondence Sgt. Hill has informed Digital Journal of the conditions the logistics of just being able to eat. General McChrystal announced that fast food places like Burger King and Pizza Hut were going to be shut down and moved to make more room for essentials the troops will need for war.

  • This really makes me "sick" literally. I know many of the troops personally that are there. We are told they would like to have coffee, coffee, coffee. We are getting together a package to send to our friends. Maybe others could do the same. I can provide an address if anyone is interested.
    • Tell `ya what, don't forget a cheap Mr. Coffee maker. They don't last long in combat. I keep a couple on hand and WalMart frequently has them on sale for under $20. Don't forget filters. Some StarBucks outlets make coffee available free (small packets). I sent the 3# containers (good to keep stuff in when empty). Sugar & Creamer are also popular (no false sugar - Aspartame).

  • I copied and pasted the article to Scmuckie Schumer and Rep. Chris Lee, R-NY. They are always going on over ;how much they do for the military'. Yeah,,,right.
    • Schumer is a waste of good time. Get rid of him when he runs for re-election. In the mean time put a Care Package together for our guys & gals. Get a few folks together, it's not that expensive and troops just love a package from a complete stranger.
  • Hang on folks... not so fast! Yes it's true, troops can always use 'back home' support and I certainly encourage it. The article seems to concern only one FOB in Afghanistan but, I'm sure there are more. Don't be too quick to get down on the military; It's a lot more difficult than you think but it will be fixed ASAP. Before you badmouth GEN McCrystal over Burger King, Pizza Hut (et al) be sure to confirm with those vendors...as in, Egg On Your Face!

I work with these [combat] guys & gals 24/7 and what I hear from the 'Grunts' is quit a bit different. Get community projects going, church groups, service organizations, Fire & Police. Send Care Packages. Get a list at http://www.operationcookiejar.org/ and adjust for the season (last month for soft choc. candy is APR 30). There are other groups that can give you advice & information. Names & APO addresses can be obtained at http://www.anysoldier.com/
  • Anyone in the U.S. Army, Marines, A.F. or Navy who is not properly fed and clothed should be receiving personal apology from the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Robert Gates, and the usurper-in-chief should be strung up by his balls for letting this happen. I would also like to recommend rather than closing down any B.K.'s or Pizza Huts, that the Pentagon send authorization / funds to supply anything on their menu to any U.S. troops on Uncle Sam at will, including delivery charges.

Great ideas on the sites providing APO's and connection links to our men & women in combat theaters. If I were made out of money to send to them, I would be contributing as much as possible. I already gave my cell phone. Keep up the good work, and pray for our troops. May God send armies of angels to watch over them and protect them from harm. Amen
  • Just Jackie Bo and/or anyone else who can help:

I'd like the address you'd mentioned below. Since I've never done this before, I would need some help with suggestions on what to send besides coffee coffee coffee. Any help would be appreciated.
    • Peri McMillan...
If you want a name and APO address go to http://www.anysoldier.com Follow the on-site instructions.
For a list of common items as well as APO mailing tips go to http://www.operationcookiejar.org/ and look around (the e-mail link on the CONTACT tab is broken and under repair). Direct e-mail = operationcookiejar@att.net. There are many troops support groups. Just look around - use keywords: Troop Support, Troops, Troop Care Packages, and similar words.

You don't need to spend lots of money; get a few folks together, a few bucks each. Take a USPS Flat Rate Box to WalMart/COSTCO.K-Mart, etc., fill it up, go to the cashier. Flat Rate Box postage is under $12. for any weight. If you use a different container the postage will probably be more. You Don't Need To Spend Lots Of Money!!!

  • Sorry assed non serving Commie slugs. They all need to be drafted and made to serve front line service with the barest of essentials, a canteen of water, bayonet, 7 magazines of ammunition, 4 frag grenades, sleeping bag, 2 pair of boots 4 pairs of fatigues, and other incidentals.

Remember that November we can make life better for our troops vote out the leftist scum and R.I.N.O.'s. Then impeach Scummy and have the rest of his commie administration arrested for treason.
    • HAVE ALLLLLL of them arrested for treason!!!!!
