DALLAS -

Dozens of wounded warriors were involved in a horrible accident Thursday afternoon in West Texas.

The accident happened at about 5 p.m. in Midland during the "Hunt for Heroes" parade. A big rig that was carrying the veterans on a flat bed trailer was hit by a train.

There are conflicting reports about the crossing arms. Some witnesses said the arms were not coming down as the truck approached the crossing.

Police confirmed at least four people were killed. Sixteen others were taken to hospitals in Midland and nearby Odessa, 10 in critical condition.

Following the parade, the veterans were scheduled to leave for a deer-hunting trip while their wives were to be treated to a variety of activities. Those events were canceled.

  • ok, so you don't think this was an accident? it was planned or intentional??

    • No, I DO think this was a tragic accident!  Someone has a lot of explaining to do as to how on earth this could have happened. My gosh, there isn't a conspiracy in everything.  Pop a paranoia pill, and chill!

  • If the crossing arm were not down then it was no accident.....

  • May our prayers go out to them, and that their wives get the help and support they need.God Bless them All.

    • Heavenly father I come before your throne room of grace this evening with a sadness in my heart, father I ask you to extend your ever loving arms in an embrace around these men, who fought wars on this earth and I believe perhaps some even fought spiritual wars for you,as well father embrace each of the wives and family members who are going thru this pain and anguish. Gracis//  thank you father.

  • A tragic day for all!!  May those who died rest in peace!!

  • Some give all, all give some; keep their families and friends in our prayers.  Sadly, lightning CAN strike twice.  These brave souls are now Warriors of God.  May our Lord bring them into his fold and their pains be washed away.

  • Sounds like it was an accident.
    • I have to modify what I said. It sounds like a horrible accident. My prayers go to the families of those injured or killed.
  • Many of us are veterans. Our prayers go out to the wives and families of these brave men. May God give you comfort at this time and know that your brothers are with you in spirit.
