Constitutional Emergency

WALTER REED UPDATE 8/21/09

Below is the map showing the TAKOMA METRO STATION which is closest to the hospital. Short-term parking is available at this station. There is also bus service from the metro station to WR. I will be posting maps, fares schedules ASAP. While our Free Republic friends have offered to provide refreshments and ask for donations, anyone desiring to bring "grilling gear" is more than welcome!

Rather than walk from the TAKOMA metroRAIL station to WR, the FReepers prefer to send people in cars to shuttle us to the hospital. Anyone of you willing to pitch in and help shuttle folks to and from the hospital PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. IF YOU POST YOUR RESPONSE IN THIS DISCUSSION, I AM LIKELY TO MISS IT!

Things get going at WR at about 6:15 or so. Folks may or may not choose to stay the entire time (troops return from dinner around 9:30). I will be in/around BUS BAY E at the TAKOMA metroRAIL station by 5:30 pm, holding a sign that says PFA: WR. I have uploaded a copy of metroBUS information also.

I will make arrangements for Free Republic friends to begin shuttling folks to WR at 6:15.

At some point before 9/9/09, I suggest we have a "cell phone number exchange" in order to facilitate ease of carrying off this event. Please send questions to me via a MESSAGE rather than posting to this discussion.

Kim

Looking forward to seeing you all in September.

We are having a Chapter meeting this Sunday to discuss in detail what we will be doing in September. To better coordinate Friday night, do you have any idea how many from your group might be there? Also, what group are you with. I didn't see that in the messages I was forwarded.

To save your group from having to buy a lot of stuff and then bring it to WR, the Chapter was going to get and set up for the evening and ask for donations. As mentioned, feel free to bring anything you want, we'll just need to coordinate a little.

To help generate funds for the Chapter, we'll also have some neat things to sell or give away for a small donation.

Phil, aka [Mr] T, aka [Mr] Trooprally

WE NEED TO GIVE THEM A GOOD ESTIMATE OF HOW MANY OF US WILL BE THERE. TO BE COUNTED, PLEASE, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

SEND ME A MESSAGE: SUBJ: WR RSVP. INDICATE HOW MANY IN YOUR GROUP.

WR UPDATE: 8/7/09

The following is an email I received from Tom Seeman in Washington, D.C. Tom is a Patriot who has devoted himself to the consistent support of our troops who are recovering at Walter Reed.

"It's good to hear from you, and that the Patriots for America will be coming to Washington DC Sept 11/12! Here is some info on our WR FReeps

* Walter Reed Army Medical Center - 6900 Georgia Ave NE, Washington DC 20307. There are two entrances on Georga Ave, but one is closed off. We are at the only entrance open to traffic, which is at Georgia and Elder street. I know it sounds like a cliche but it's easy to spot.

* We get there every Friday evening starting at about 6:30 and stay until the bus comes back from dinner with the troops, which is usually between 9 and 10.

* There is parking in a small church parking lot at the corner where we stand, and also on the street.

* If you want to take the metro there is a metrorail stop about a half-mile from the WR, but the walk to WR winds through several streets - let us know if you want to do this as we'll have to arrange for someone to pick you up.

* We set up a small table in the parking lot and bring food and drink, and usually order pizza. Sometimes we bring small gas grills. You are welcome to bring food and drink or not as you prefer.

* We have plenty of signs and flags but you are welcome to bring your own.

Please let me know your questions, otherwise I look forward to seeing you there!"

KEEP THOSE CARDS AND LETTERS COMING! POST YOUR IDEAS AND LET'S MAKE OUR TROOPS KNOW THAT WE ARE PROUD AMERICANS WHO ARE SUPPORTING AND THANKFUL FOR THE PRICELESS GIFT THEY GIVE TO OUR NATION!!!!!

I'm driving down to D.C. from New Jersey Friday noon and would like to go to Walter Reed that evening. I can take up to 3 people as a shuttle. I'm staying at the Comfort Inn in Alexandria. As long as there will be a parking spot for me it'll be fine to fetch comrades.

As an aside: I'm a photographer. Are videocameras or still cameras allowed within? I'm recording the rally for a bunch of warriors serving in Iraq (some on their 4th tours).
sorry, the Comfort Inn in Falls Church.
Nancy......I hope you will favor us by posting your photo/videos.........
Nancy both allowed.
I plan to go as long as my back isn't acting up that day. I think that it is one of the best things about this trip.
Looking forward to being there with everyone on Friday!

The Dame
As someone who's worked in civillian hospitals for over 25 years, outside of maternity where parents are taking pictures of their new babies, cameras in general are a touchy subject, due to privacy issues. We were allowed to video our grand daughter after she was born, but NOT allowed to record the actual birth itself. They gave us a phoney reason, but I knew it was a "liability" issue. If there had been some kind of birth accident, where the baby was harmed, there would have been actual footage to hold against the hospital. If you were filming without the staff's knowlege the audio might possibly pick up a confidential conversation that might be going on around a corner but out of video range were you standing near a corner or a doorway. I have seen teens taking pictures of their teen friends in hospital gowns with their "pic phones" just to razz them a little, but you can't just walk around freely taking pictures of everything or anyone. Patients and staff would all have to give you permission to take their picture, as our hospital must ask for volunteers just to be in PR brochures. It wouldn't hurt to contact the Public Relations officer at WR and ask what their policy is and to get any permits, rather then just assume it will be OK and be disappointed. Aside of being in your own home, few other places do you have such a strong "right to privacy" then in a hospital.
Kim,

We are gonna be outside the hospital. Information is above. Some may go in, but I'm sure they would not take pics inside.
I've been there twice. Soldiers really appreciate the cheers. Sometimes they get off the buses and mingle for a few minutes.
Laura Bush (A Laura Bush, not The Laura Bush) is usually there. You can recognize her by her robust cheering.
On March 15th, 2008, there were about 160 people there. Looks like we will beat that.
OOOPPPPPSSSS! Should have been 14th.
I and my 2 friends are very much interested in the Walter Reed trip...my cell phone is 386-212-8026...please let me know how to contact you..sandy...ca n we bring gifts for them like cookie plates or socks, etc..think that would be very nice...sincerely Sandy Stuart Florida patriot..thanks again..sandy
As always, when at any gathering in DC we will be with our troops at W.R. will be looking forward to seeing you all there

Striking a Deal over Syria at the G8 Summit

Striking a Deal over Syria at the G8 Summit:

World leaders were close to striking a deal on pushing for peace in Syria at the G8 summit on Tuesday amid conflicting reports that certain leaders clashed on a roadmap to resolve the conflict.

Sources at the Group of 8 conference told Reuters news agency that the leaders disagreed in talks about the nature of a transitional government for Syria.

“You’re close to a seven to one position on Syria and clearly (Vladimir) Putin [...]

The Destruction of the Syrian Air Force

The Destruction of the Syrian Air Force:

The Syrian Air Force has suffered major losses in the last year, as the aircraft and helicopters were unleashed on rebels (and civilian supporters) and took a beating. Of the 370 usable fixed wing war planes the Syrian Air Force had two years, about half are now out of action because of combat losses or wear and tear. Nearly two-thirds of the 360 helicopters are gone, for the same reasons.

Part of the problem was [...]

Germany:  Muslim Refugee Threatens People With Knives, Holding Koran and Shouting “Allahu Akbar!”:

According to what has so far been discovered, the suspect entered a tent associated with the registered demonstration “Lampedusa refugees” in Steindamm, sat at a table and sang. After a [...]
