Either we have to take life sustaining prescription medications or we know someone who does. I'm thinking of meds for folks who take heart meds or have pacemakers etc. What about folks who have heart burn without their meds? I've seen those folks put down/made inactive by heartburn.

Lets have this discussion on any prescription meds that will be needed and figure out what we must do to be prepared in this area too. I'm not sure an open forum like this is a good place for this discussion because I don't want our efforts noted and idiots in gov. control seats jump on our ideas and solutions and then squash them by more over-reaching regulations.

I know it's very hard to get a 6 month supply. I've tried with some. But first I'm told my insurance won't pay for them yet. Then I say, I'll just pay for it myself and I'm told I can't do that. And these are not meds that could be used to get high so that is not a reason....the only reason is intruding gov. regulations.

What are your thoughts?

Another thought.....think about schizophrenics without their meds. I've seen those without there meds and it's a dangerous situation for many reasons.

  • What about the Canadian pharmacy sites?

  • It would seem so, but I dont know.  I found a site called canadianpharmacymeds.com.  They also have a link to RxRights.org urging us to write our government officials urging them not to pass a law that will allow the government to seize and destroy medications from outside the US.  Section 708 of the new FDA Safety and Innovation Act.  I didn't even know about that one until I looked on that site.  I wish I could say it's unbelievable.

  • I do not, as yet, have to take any regular meds, which does not preclude a future necessity for them. All I can do is share my thoughts about what others have mentioned.

    1.  Natural substitutes for meds with patents.  Pharma companies can take naturally existing herbal/organic cures, tweak them to show they are 'man made' or 'improved', get a patent and sell them for whatever price they can get.

    2.  Understand the nature of the meds you are currently on; to do this you will need to either buy a Physician's Desk Reference (PDR), or check at the public library for one which shows a picture of the actual pill, the miligrams of that pill, the color, and the actual name and common name of the pill.  It also gives a detailed description of what it is, and what it affects both good and bad.  This is your first step.

    3.  Get a copy of a good herbal guide and read and compare to the PDR.  You might be in for a surprise.

All this is good common sense.  But FIRST and foremost, you need to actually know what it is you are dealing with.

    • The sad truth is we don't know for sure what is in any of the prescription medications we take and that may be especially true after January 1, 2013.  I was forced to (by my employer) get the Hepatitis immunizations. They are a series of three shots.  The first two are given a month apart and the third one is given 6 months after the first one.  The first two were okay but the third one I got two weeks ago nearly killed me.  I wasn't sick before I got it but I'm still recovering from it now.  The point is, keep your eyes open and don't believe everything you're told.

  • Twana ~ what is your reason for need to stock pile 'life sustaining meds' ?  Are we talking about preparing for an 'end of society' situation / economic collapse / revolution or just a 'natural disaster' type short term disruption of supplies and services ?

Canadian Meds are equal to U.S. suppliers, and so are SOME Mexican pharmacies.  You just have to be slective in whom you deal with.

  • Yes Canadian pharmacys can be trusted. Then you can drive across the border into Mexico and buy anything over the counter.

    • I have been prepping for an economic collapse/disruption of services etc for over 3 years yet I have often wondered how to deal with the medical issues.  I did purchase a book of natural remedies AND the seeds to grow these herbs.  I still would like to have 6 months supply of meds just in case.  Thanks for the ideas.

  • Ive thought about this situation too. You mentioned heartburn, ive got BAD acid reflux and cant got 1 day without meds. I start throwing up acid. Also have a damaged back and im on 2 diff pain meds, the pain mgt doc wont give me more than 1 month at a time. My step father has a pacemaker and has MAJOR problems with blood clots, hes had a total of 7 surgeries in 1 1/2 years. So yeah, im worried about the same thing
    • I would like to talk to you about this in a private message. I can send you information on a natural product that might help you. If you send me your email address I'll send you the info.

  • I told my doctor that I would like to get a six month supply of my prescription and he was very accomodating.  I have to buy it at Walmart and pay for it myself, but he gave me a three month supply and told me he'll give me another one in a few months if I want.  I have also started taking one less pill a day and seem to have no ill effects and am slowing but surely building a surplus.  I am also exploring herbal alternatives and know that they work.
