Julia Reid, Sky News OnlineUS and Nato troops in Afghanistan will no longer be able to indulge in pizza and burgers after a ban on fast food on military bases.No more burgers: General Stanley McChrystal in AfghanistanGeneral Stanley McChrystal, the former commander of special forces in Iraq, has waged war on junk food, and ordered that outlets including Burger King and Pizza Hut are closed down.In a military blog Command Sergeant-Major Michael T Hall says the move is to cut back on "non-essentials"."This is a war zone, not an amusement park," he wrote."From the moment (General) McChrystal and I arrived in Afghanistan last summer, we began looking for ways to do things more efficiently across the battlefield."This effort includes moving and reallocating resources to better accomplish our mission."One of the ways we're going to do that - in order to accommodate the troop increase and get re-focused on the mission at hand - is to cut back on some of the non-essentials."That includes some of the morale, welfare and recreation facilities throughout Afghanistan."As well as fast food outlets at Bagram and Kandahar, the Harley-Davidson concession and Military Car Sales shops will be closed.First-run movie showings will also be cut back, as well as canned and bottled goods that are currently imported into the country.General McChrystal also banned alcohol at the small bar at ISAF headquarters in September, which was dubbed by some troops a "war on Stella".The changes are unlikely to have much effect on British troops.Camp Bastion has a Pizza Hut and a van offering takeaway curries
