The National Security Agency (NSA) is conducting a counterintelligence probe at its Fort Meade, Md., headquarters in a top-secret hunt for a Russian agent, according to a former intelligence official close to the agency.
The former official said the probe grew out of the case of 10 Russian "illegals," or deep-cover spies, who were uncovered last summer and sent back to Moscow after the defection of Col. Alexander Poteyev, a former SVR foreign intelligence officer who reportedly fled to the U.S. shortly before Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited here in June.
Col. Poteyev is believed to be the source who disclosed the U.S.-based agent network.
NSA counterintelligence officials suspect that members of the illegals network were used by Russia's SVR spy agency to communicate with one or more agents inside the agency, which conducts electronic intelligence gathering and code-breaking.
One sign that the probe is fairly advanced is that FBI counterintelligence agents are involved in the search.
"They are looking for one or more Russian spies that NSA is convinced reside at Fort Meade and possibly other DoD intel offices, like DIA [Defense Intelligence Agency]," the former official said. "NSA is convinced that at least one is at NSA."
Some of the 10 illegals who were posing as U.S. citizens helped service Russian agents working inside the U.S. intelligence community, the former official said.
No other details of the investigation could be learned.
NSA spokeswoman Vanee Vines said in e-mail: "I don't have any information to provide regarding your query."
An FBI spokesman had no immediate comment.
NSA has been the victim of several damaging spy cases dating back to the 1960s, when two officials defected to the Soviet Union.
In 1985, NSA analyst Ronald Pelton was caught spying for Moscow. He had provided the Soviets with extremely damaging secrets, including details of an underwater electronic eavesdropping program on Russian military cables called "Operation Ivy Bells."

By not vetting Obumer properly and allowing an illegal alien into this office we have allowed the enemy control of our government and he is doing his damnedness to destroy our country. It is time to arrest the top 4 and try them for treason then publically hang them as a warning to the rest.

If we had a a judicial system theat worth a crap Obama never would have become a Senator. Someone had to falsify his security clearance. We do not have a judical system or a congress with any honor, loyalty, or integrity. Do you think these people have integrity Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters Chris Dodd, Barney Franks, and others .Our Government is being run by liberals, socialists, and communist democrats. Do you think the people in this country will ever see what is happening to them before it's to late. If the future of this country is to survive they had better wake up and raise up.

How long did it take The CIA and British intelligence to expose Kim Philby, AKA: Harold Adrian Russell, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt, and John Cairncross!!??? They did untold damage to the British and American inteligence community for more than 20 years, starting in the early 1940s selling secrets to the Soviet Union! Burgess & Maclean defected to Russia in the early 1950s when the came under suspicion! Philby also fell under suspicion in the 1950s, but was cleared with the help of Cairncross and probably others until 1961, while he was working with the United States intelligence service as a high level expert on Soviet affairs. He than escaped to the Soviet Union where he was given the rank and pay of Colonel in the KGB. He died as an old Man in May of 1988, rather than at the end of a rope or standing infront of a fireing squad!! It is interesting to note that Philby, Maclean, and Burgess were all students at Cambridge University, a hot bet of Communism then and today! True, especially about Americans having louzy memories, slow to learn from history and also living in a daze. I think much of the "fault" that our country's government is in trouble today can be laid at the feet of the American people who have been asleep at the wheel, so to speak, thus allowing the danger to escalate. This sleeping giant is showing signs of waking up but the process is slow..... and hopefully won't be too late. Regardless, we must prepare ourselves for the tough times ahead.

A true american patriot , who has given his life for this country and will stand up to defend the constitution will probably be going to prison , while a taitor, fraud.liar and coward sits in the white house going unpunished for his crimes.
