According to TPM, America's favorite never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste administration is preparing to ram through a number of restrictions to our Second Amendment civil rights as early as Jan 15. The idea behind this strategy is to strike while people's heightened emotions are still scrambling common sense:
The White House and gun control supporters are gearing up for a whirlwind month, with plans to pass reform legislation before outrage over the Sandy Hook massacre has a chance to fade. …
House Democrats are moving ahead with their own plans as well. On Friday, Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), chair of the newly created Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, announced the appointment of 12 vice chairs, including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), the body’s leading voice on gun control. According to a Democratic aide, the group plans to release its recommendations in early February and is already organizing public hearings on the issue.
Obama has personally identified an assault weapons ban and limits on ammunition magazine size as top priorities. Other possible reforms could include background check requirements for purchases at gun shows, a loophole that’s helped create a huge market of off-record arms purchases.
Pro-gun groups have dominated Congress in recent years and, while lawmakers approved by the National Rifle Association have mostly kept their heads down in recent weeks, any legislation could face an difficult path to passage, or even a vote, especially in the Republican-led House.
Even though data, history, and facts show that a well-armed citizenry actually reduces crime and that no gun control laws currently on the books or being proposed would have stopped the Sandy Hook mass-murder, none of that matters. All that matters is handing Obama a victory and the NRA and the Right a defeat.
One area TPM overlooks in its otherwise solid reporting, though, is how important the media's role will be when it comes to jamming through these pointless restrictions of our rights.
If past is prologue, the media is likely working with the Obama White House already in order to coordinate the roll-out of the legislation in a way powerful enough to either intimidate the GOP-controlled House to pass it or to make them pay a political price in 2014 if they don't.
More than once, the media and the Obama administration have been caught red-handed coordinating in this way. And as we saw within seconds of the Sandy Hook story breaking, the media has already coordinated its message to exploit the tragedy as a means to push gun control. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that, with actual legislation on the line, the media won't push even harder.

YEP and folks keep re- electing them .
To start with... every legal gun owner in this country should jam the phone lines of every News outlet in the country. Once you get them on the phone tell them they are siding with an anti-American administration and they will be held accountable if they help them. And a couple of "eat sh/t" and "F-U's" wouldn't hurt. The pressure must be put on immediately and en masse. Every News media operation in America must have their communications clogged with pissed-off Americans to let them know we will NOT be rolled over on this and they are on the losing end of this. At the same time I suggest we do the same for all of D.C. Sure we can call the Reps and Senators offices and tie-up their lines but more importantly, we need to call every government agency in D.C. and shut them down. I realize that calling and emailing Congress won't have the effect it should, but we simply cannot leave them out. The whole idea is to let the entire country know all at once that "NO WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS".
In order to get the wanted effect this must be done the very day that this new legislation is proposed or the very day that the media blitzkrieg against guns starts. Yes I know some of you think the media has already started, but my gut tells me that we ain't seen nothin yet! Keep in mind that this is >>> the < BIGGEST issue for progressives and they are about to go full bore. This is going to be wet dream time for progs and they are about to feel empowered by this push. Our job is to make sure we take that power away.
Some of you here are very good at getting information quickly. I suggest some of you that have that talent put two lists together. One... the phone#'s and all email contacts of all News agencies across the country. Two... the same for ALL governmental agencies in and out of Washington D.C.
Any takers?
Very good points David. One point I would make is that twice the Supreme Court has ruled that an unconstitutional law is null and void and can not be enforced. If you read the second ammendment there are no ifs ands or butts. All gun control laws are unconstitutional and not enforceble. Shall not be infringed!!!! That means it can not be changed, modified or otherwise Period end of story. Screw the lefties!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael,
I would simply ask you this one question... what Marxist in History cared about the damn law?
No question about that! Government has operated outside of the law ever since America was born! It's only become blatantly obvious with the inception of the Internet.
