WHY NOT A THIRD PARTY?

I have been scolded by many fearful third party opponents who say that any third party candidate will only seal a democrat win. I have to say this is bunk. I think the republican party is afraid, that any third party candidate will ruin their chance of winning and perpetuating the republican dynasty. As a result they are using the usual scare tactics to try to get legitimate candidates marginalized before they can gain a foothold. Isn’t it we the people who decide who we will vote for? Aren’t we just looking for the best people to represent us in this representative form of government? Ask yourselves this, How has the republican party represented you in the last decade? I think the republicans are just afraid of being marginalized themselves, like the whigs that they replaced in the 19th century. Perhaps it is time for a new party to come on to the scene.

We have to remember what these people have done, not for us, but to us. The record is clear. If you think back it was not long ago that it was these republicans who were in charge, with a majority in both houses and a republican president. How did that work for us? Did we cut spending? No, we spent more. Was the deficit reduced? No, we had, and still have, record deficits. Wait a minute, didn’t they vote for the first bailout under a republican president? When you think about it the republicans really didn’t represent our best interest at all. And now they want us to believe they have changed their ways. I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe it for one minute. I think that they’re pissing on my back and telling me it’s raining.

What attracted me to the tea party movement was the fact that the tea party people were truly non partisan. They were equally disgusted with both parties. In fact, it was this very disgust that motivated the republicans to vote the way they did on the health care bill. Unfortunately it didn’t stop them from throwing Jim Bunning under the bus when he tried to stop a bill that was violating the paygo rule. The fact that they voted against the health care bill doesn’t hold much weight when you couple it with the fact that we are drowning in debt and they are about to vote for a 2.8 billion aid package for Haiti. No, these republicans haven’t changed at all.

Let me say this to any prospective voter. Give every candidate an equal chance to earn your vote and I mean EARN. This is what primary elections are for. How can you say that you are making an intelligent decision when the only choices are between a democrat or republican. Isn’t that kind of like a choice between shit and excrement. The republicans seem to think that the congressional seats belong to the republican party. To quote a newly elected senator ”This is not the democrats seat it’s the peoples seat”. How quickly they have forgotten this lesson. They may have already forgotten this lesson but we can’t. Their arrogance is simply astounding.

If the republicans really want to do what is best for The People, then in a race where a third party candidate is doing better than them, perhaps it is they who should step aside and let the best candidate win. Did it ever occur to them that if they did the honorable thing that the democrat would still lose? A true statesman would rather bow out of a race for the good of the country, than ruin a race for the good of the party. It seems to me that it is the republican party that is spoiling the race, for the people. Face it the two parties have ruled for long enough. If you take an honest look at what this two party system has done for us already you would have to say that we need a third party.

  • I still think Alan Keyes won the election for President,I will not vote democrat or republican and like Martin said "If you do not believe in the United States Constitution or We the PEOPLE,OF The People,By The PEOPLE,FOR The PEOPLE ,best you stay home",naw better yet,if you like communism so well ,there are plenty of communist countries who would love to have you!.
    • Leisa
I hate to break it to you but Alan Keyes is no bargan either. If he were elected as the first black president we would have been no better off than we were with Bush. Thats just my opinion.

Believe it or not there is a constitution party. A Maryland lawyer was as candidate under this party in 2004. Unfortunately this lawyer makes his money by violating peoples constitutional rights every day. If the constitutional party has this sort of person as its candidate it's no wonder they lost. By the way you're right, there are those who should stay home. That being said, we need to choose people of character not party.
  • There are three options if you are a conservative today in America:

Option 1. Vote for the latest republican candidate. This is the new and improved principled candidate that hears the people’s voices. Vote for someone like Dede in NY23 or Senator Scott Brown. She lost but he won and there isn’t a bit of difference between the two. He is a pro-choice, pro-amnesty, globalist. (A globalist is a politician or person who thinks its good to have free trade zones and most favored trading nation status with communists. A globalist is a politician or person that thinks it’s good for Americans to watch their jobs move overseas. A globalist is a politician or person who believes it is good that Americans lower their standard of living and compete on the same level playing field with third world sweat-shop workers). Anyway, Senator Brown is a pro-choice, pro-amnesty, globalist. But, he was the 41st vote against the current Health care reform bill. He is just a little to the right of the most left leaning liberal democrat. He is a career professional republican conservative politician.

The career professional republican politicians intend to do everything they can to prevent the election of a third party candidate. They put before the voters, conservative candidates like Dede in NY23 and Scott Brown. If that doesn’t work, then the career professional republican leadership resort to scare tactics to influence their conservative party members who won’t support the liberal candidates. They hire prominent talk show hosts with millions of listeners to scare the people and repeatedly tell the conservatives that a vote for the third party candidate will ensure a liberal democrat’s victory. They must convince the few remaining conservative members that the republican leadership just lost its way, but now, somehow, they have found their conservative roots again and the Republican Party can be reformed and transformed from the inside out. There is no need to change party leadership or parties!

There are some people who believe that and I caution them to look at the history of the career republican politicians. The Republicans are as liberal and corrupted with power as the career democrats. Look at the Republican leadership. It has not changed. Whoopee, another broken contract with America, please. Where do I stand in line for this?

Option 2. Vote for the democrat. Since there isn’t a nickel’s worth of difference between career professional republican politicians and career professional democrat politicians, lets just all get along and move quickly to fascism (government run businesses) and socialism (government run everything).

Of course there is the Constitution that prohibits our government from doing most of the things that it is doing today, but the career politicians view our Constitution is a bit of nostalgia and not really relevant to today’s issues. The legislative processes and restrictions that the Constitution imposes are just to slow for today’s fast paced global society.

Option 3. Vote for the third party. Vote for the Constitution Party. Vote for the third party that has ballot access. Throw the bums out!

Third parties have a long history in the US. President Lincoln was a third party candidate. Most recently, in 1992, a coalition of independent state political parties united to form a third national party. A strong third party is not a new idea, it just happens to be the best idea today, again, and for the foreseeable future. After 1992, more independent state parties organized in states that were not part of the original group of states. In 1999, this group of independent parties adopted the name “Constitution Party” to better reflect their position on the issues. Most states recognize the “Constitution Party” but there are a few groups that retained their original names including the California American Independent Party, the Nevada Independent American Party, the Michigan Taxpayers Party and the Connecticut Concerned Citizens Party. Current laws (passed by career professional republican and democrat politicians) in some states make it very difficult for third parties to organize or change their party name after they gain ballot access.

Those are the choices before conservative republicans, democrats and independents today and in November. Push the “I believe you button” and vote for the latest version of a republican conservative; vote for the social democrat; or, vote for the other party, the “Constitution party”.

Oh, there is a 4th choice. Sit things out. Stay on the sidelines. Don’t participate. When the republicans and democrats come for your guns and increase taxes in the name of “national security”, and they will, hand them over, smile, and say thank you, may I have another, please.

If anyone thinks the republicans will not come for your guns, then think again of New Orleans and Katrina. There is no difference between a republican and a democrat politician.

    Very Respectfully,

    Greg Cowan
Constitution Party Candidate for Missouri’s 4th district.

It’s refreshing to have such a thoughtful comment in reply to my discussion, you third party, republican hating, democrat hack;-? As you can see, my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek. Seriously though, I don’t understand why people, more accurately republicans, are so afraid of a third party. The democrats stand to lose just as many votes if you look at some polls, except if you live in Maryland.
I have to disagree with you about the statement that the republican party hires talk show hosts to pump their bilge. That is tantamount to calling them whores. The face is these hosts are just sluts. They don’t get paid to do what they do. The sad part is that these people actually believe what they are talking about.
I also have to disagree with the comment that there isn’t a nickel’s worth of difference between them. There is a lot of difference, unfortunately it’s not where it counts. They over tax and over spend on much different things. So there’s the difference.
I do agree that a third party is the best idea for today. I believe the time is ripe for a new party to take the lead. If you look at my previous posts and my blog you will see that I am for the most part a third party supporter. My web site is dedicated to looking for these candidates. Our political system needs new blood, hopefully it won’t have to be literal.
You will also see by my posts that I am a bit radical for a conservative constitutionalist. I believe that gays should have the right to be joined in a civil union. If they find a church that will join them in a pseudo-holy union I have no problem with that. However, I’m not stupid enough to think God will bless that union. If thy want to play the marriage game I say go for it. I don’t have a problem with people enjoying products that alter their consciousness as long as they keep it from harming others. The pro choice issue is bogus. As long as SCOTUS protects a woman’s right to kill her unbirthed child then there is nothing that can be done about it. Politically it is a non-starter. If the legislature passed a law against abortion SCOTUS would knock it down.
I say all this to point out that if you really want to call yourself a literal constitutionalist you have to be prepared to allow people to pursue their own idea of happiness. That’s my poinion

  • I too have been asked to "shut Up" by another certain TeaParty web site. These fools are thinking about Perot and 1992. I mentioned that Perot did garner some 19% of the popular vote. but not a chance at the elector college.

The reason we need a new third party is that there are many independents and even some Democrats that are fed up with the Socialist Liberals but would not dare step into the GOP camp for any reason. Where do those people go to? I suggest, a third party devoid of prior political posturing. I myself, a long time Republican. can not stomach another party go-round and the same old politics and manure slinging.

Perhaps we can ressurect both parties, in time but we need REAL CHANGE this year. We need patriotic men and women to fill the houses and block any more of this anti-presidents moves toward Marxism. With the right mix we could possibly enable criminal charges against this presidency.

Just falling in step with Republicans will not change a thing. WAKE UP you third party naysayers.
    • P G
I agree with most of what you say. I only disagree with the possibility of alleging criminal charges against this man. If we couldn't inpeach Clinton when we had the goods on him, we can do nothing to this idiot. I think the Reps will be surprised to see how many of them will be voted out of office this Nov. I don't think the third party has a chance this election but I do hold out hope for the 2012 election. If the reps win in the 2010 election they will be as ineffective as they have been in the past. I always have to remember that the democrats have no brains and the republicans have no balls. We need people in congress who have both.
