Maryland's Bishops Urge Continued Advocacy in Support of Marriage

Protect Marriage in Maryland

Your help is needed with an urgent message to protect marriage in Maryland.

The Maryland Senate voted on February 24 to drastically alter Maryland’s long-standing law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. It passed SB 116. (Read our press release on the Senate vote for same-sex marriage.)

The House of Delegates now takes up the legislation and held a hearing in the Judiciary Committee on February 25. Read the testimony of MCC Executive Director Mary Ellen Russell.

It is important for every member of the House of Delegates to hear from the people of Maryland that we are opposed to HB 175. Please email your delegates today using our Catholic Advocacy Network, a quick and easy way to contact your elected officials.

THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER- the bill has just been moved out of committee and will go to the House Floor!

Bring signs and bull horns to sustain a protest against the legalization of Same Sex Marriage.  You can visit the legislators in the early morning (8-10am) and return to the sidewalks to join us in protest.  If you can stay overnight, bring tents, food, and other tailgating equipment.

Delegates are in Annapolis doing the peoples work on Monday: 3pm-8pm (session begins at 8)

Tuesday-Wednesday: 9am -8pm (session begins at 10am)

Friday: 10am-5pm (session starts at 11am)

- Come with signs (please be tasteful and positive and focus on defending marriage)

- Stand on the State House steps as delegates are walking in to session. Participants can and should also walk the halls in groups to visit the delegates in their offices. (signs won’t be allowed in the building)

Come for one, all or any days that you are able for the entire week. The idea is to have DEFENDERS of MARRIAGE here in droves, highly visible to show legislators how much we care about this issue!

Though we have been successful in holding up the vote for a week, the same sex marriage legislation has ultimately passed out of the House Judiciary committee.

Remember it took Same Sex Marriage supporters a week to secure the 12 votes needed to pass the bill out of committee. Had it not been for your calls and emails, the bill would have been voted out on Tuesday.

AGAIN, THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER- it has just moved to the House Floor!

Remember to be respectful—we do not want anyone arrested.  We just want our voices to be heard!

If anyone would like to participate in a SIGN BOMB this weekend, or if you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail or phone.

Here's how....if anyone has better guidance send to me.....
First........type your text entry into the post block to include typing or paste the URL you want us to view........when finished with the text, highlight and copy the URL in the text.......then click the "add hyperlink" tool in the B, I, U box just above the text entry, after clicking, a window will open asking for the URL...paste the URL in the box and click "OK".
