Operation American Spring will be a 100% volunteer event. Because it will be an all volunteer event, we will have no budget, so we are all going to have to put ours heads together and come up with a plan.

 

Trying to get even a million people in DC at one time for more than 1 day (meaning accommodations are needed), let alone 10 million, will be a daunting task, but we MUST make it work. The team here at OAS want to to do as much as possible, so we have put together a resource page to help attendees and volunteers with information on getting around DC and places to stay and any other helpful information. Getting Around in DC

So folks, it’s already hard enough to find a parking space in DC to begin with and if we're going to expect millions, we are going to have to come up with a plan to get people there, because a million extra cars will definitely not fit in Washington DC. The best idea would be for everyone to park outside the city and take the metro or the bus into DC. For those that would like to try to park in DC, there is a map towards the bottom with local area parking garages.

 

I would suggest all OAS volunteers and attendees buy the $14 SmarTrip card with a one day metro rail pass (at least for the first day). This pass will let you ride all day long for one price and also includes the metrobus as well. I would also suggest that you get your fare card online at the following link here:https://smartrip.wmata.com/storefront and have it sent to you ahead of time. When I went to the Glenn Beck rally, it took over an hour of waiting in line just to get to the fare machine and there were so many people that we all couldn't fit on the train and you had to wait for two or three trains just to get one where you could fit and many were late getting to the event. So buying ahead of time will keep you from having to stand in any line and will save us from having a massive pile up at the metro stations.

 

Because the rallying points are spread over a large area, having an all day pass will make it easier for people to take the metro from one target point to another, instead of having to walk from the Lincoln Memorial to the US Capitol, which is a LONG WALK! As an American, I'm appreciative of all the efforts being made toward the OAS event!  But, I wanted to know why we must wait until May for this most important American event?  There are so many whispers of an upcoming catastrophic event looming on the near horizon. It would seem like NOW is the time.  Why give several months warning?  Those who could go now could go... others keep joining, until it is a massive demonstration, on May 16th.  Just wondering, as the situation appears to be approaching critical mass.

We are here to help all and can save you time and money in your trip, making for a better stay. DMV is very hard to navigate, just ask the truckers that were here in October. 

We have many options for your stay in the DMV, many of which are not advertised or have even been discussed (military bases for military) Please use our DC page and we will answer your questions and/or help you with your plans.

When I recently traveled Europe I used airbnb.com   It is private rooms to let, or entire apartments, daily/weekly/monthly.  Put in D.C., or whatever area you want to be in, and the listings come up for you to review.   It worked very well for us, and I am considering an apartment for a month that we could probably share with others.

Just throwing this out there... Would it be Possible to Find a Building In DC That the GROUP Could LEASE? Month at a Time? Get Donations for this Purpose ONLY, could be used As Office Space, and 3 Hots & A Cot for Participants.

If you are using the Metro/Train,  you can get an APP for your phone on the metro routes, then use it for your trips in/out of D.C.

Do we have any truck drivers who own their own Freezer/Refrigerated trucks? Could be a big help for food storage for those who plan on staying. I've already posted to my State Forum, but figured this would be needed for more then one state. :)

Do we have anyone looking at Service Clubs: To name a few: Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Moose, Knights of Columbus? Or veterans organizations such as American Legion? YM/YWCA? Researching these organizations in the DC area for parking, accommodations, and general assistance? Researching these organizations around the country for general assistance?

Thanks for the information on the oversize parking. I plan to take my truck and billboard (guest book) for people to sign like we did on many occasions including WWII event with the truckers and vets. http://pumabydesign001.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/lincoln-memorial...

Any suggestions what message to put on the billboard?

@Tracy: Expenses are a big deal for many. It is up to us to help mitigate them. Car pooling is another example.
