I understand there are currently some 64-million gun owners in America. Should the most recent legislative proposal aimed at eliminating our Second Amendment rights come to pass, I offer the following suggestion.
Many of us have sworn the oath to "defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic." How ironic if Congress itself becomes that domestic enemy! Clearly, the majority of us will not comply with regulations voiding our primary defense mechanism assured in the Bill of Rights, to keep and bear useful arms!
My proposal is simple: first, write open letters to our Representatives who have seen fit to abridge our rights, mailing copies to local news outlets (radio, TV, newspapers) across the United States. The letters should be based on our pledge of Constitutional defense along with acknowledgment of our fundamental respect for just law. We need not be a majority to be right! And surely we will not submit to a simple majority voting elimination of liberties guaranteed within our Constitution, without the Amendment process even being attempted.
Perhaps millions of law abiding citizens need to organize, gather and present ourselves to local law enforcement for incarceration for willful disregard of these newest violations of our Constitutional rights. This should be done with extensive press coverage and in as large numbers as can be assembled in every jurisdiction. If Congress wants to proclaim us criminals, let our neighbors judge the character of the newly minted miscreants. Let them then be prepared to pay for supporting some 10-20 MILLION protesters with food, shelter and clothing! If up to 10% of the nations population willingly submits to jailing, or even execution, simply for refusal to surrender our God-given rights, perhaps a critical mass of thoughtful citizens will be moved to arise in our defense. If not, there is no reason to remain alive, as willing subjects of oppression. I assert that historic principle: "Give me liberty, or give me death!"
