This Year marks 30 Years since the Iran Hostage Crisis and Operation Eagle Claw (24 April - 25 April 1980) in the Deserts of Iran. Briefing:
Iranian students stormed the US Embassy, seizing control, and capturing 66 Americans. 13 were eventually released leving 53 who were held hostage by Iran for 444 days. 4 November, 1979

(1)Obtain information on location of hostages and the embassy grounds,
(2) to transport the rescuers from Desert Two near Tehran to the embassy grounds with pre-staged vehicles
(3)Disrupt electrical power and communications to avert any potential counter measures from Irans Military.
(4)Extract and transport the rescuers and hostages to the Manzariyeh Air Base outside of Tehran
Aircraft assigned to this wore special black-red-black identifications stripes on the right wings.
A U.S. Marine Corps McDonnell F-4N Phantom II aircraft (BuNo 150480) of Marine fighter-bomber squadron VMFA-323 Death Rattlers on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43) in April 1980. Sailors are applying black-red-black identification stripes for the (later aborted) attempt to rescure U.S. hostages from Iran, code named "Operation Eage Claw" (or "Evening Light").
Two U.S. Navy LTV A-7E Corsair II aircraft of Carrier Air Wing 14 (CVW-14) on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43) in April 1980. Both aircraft wear black-red-black identification stripes for the (later aborted) attempt to rescue U.S. hostages from Iran, code named "Operation Eage Claw" (or "Evening Light"). The A-7E in the foreground (BuNo 156872) belonged to attack squadron VA-97 Warhawks and was the personal aircraft of the air group commander (CAG) of CVW-14 (hence the colourful tail markings). The A-7E in the background on the catapult was from VA-27 Royal Maces.
