I was wondering how long it would take before this topic and comparison to float up, after all, liberals are seeking ways to discredit OAS from the beginning, and it was going to happen sooner or later.
Upon first hearing of the OAS plan, I immediately recalled the notorious routing of the “Bonus Marchers” from D.C. in 1932 by the US Army using armored vehicles and cavalry.
Rather than go into the whole historical episode of what happened when a passel of WWI veterans descended on Washington at the height of the depression demanding a wartime bonus be paid them, I will put links at the end. If anyone is interested, they can read it from Wikipedia. The summaries are fairly accurate. After all, in today’s age of progressive mind control, not too many are interested in going back before Eisenhower’s era (even though he was in charge of routing the Bonus Army- as one of MacArthur’s staffers), to rewrite history.
What is important to us right now is that we maintain control over the OAS activity, from organizational control to media control.
Let’s not fall into the trap of letting our “enemies” define who and what the Operation American Spring is, and who and what is driving it.
We are not military personnel, retired or otherwise, dissatisfied with pay cuts, benefits loss or any other disenfranchisement by the current administration. What we are protesting is loss of freedom and constitutional rights for all Americans.
All the citizens of the United States have very specific grievances against both the congress and the administration. They have completely side-lined the Constitution and are running the country in an ad-hoc manner, without following procedures REQUIRED by that constitution that they took an oath to protect and defend.
In effect, our country has been operating illegally since 2008 when George W. Bush was still President, and the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act was passed.
The Democrat controlled Congress began ignoring Constitutional mandates, and after the election of B.H. Obama, has continued to do so, with no ill effects.
Adam Clayton Powell was expelled from the House of Representatives for lying to his constituencies, and then lying about his lying. Yes, he got reelected again, but the house refused to seat him.
Why have we allowed the whole government to be run by scoff-laws and criminals?
Unacceptable Cabinet Appointees and the creation of unaccountable offices of “Czars” in the White House should have been grounds for shutting the purse strings and calling for impeachment.
What happened there? NOTHING!
We are fed up of our non-responsive representatives not calling the current President into account for his illegal and unconstitutional methods, and we intend to do something.
He is the one holding America Hostage, and we are demanding results, not some “promised benefits.”
I am sure that media in conjunction with the Democrat Party are already generating storylines to cover OAS as spoiled 1-percenters, whining because they can’t have their way.
Go back and look at how Occupy Wall Street was covered and expect the opposite analysis of OAS. We are not the favorites of New York Times, Washington Post, or the SF Examiner.
If you want sympathy, look in the dictionary between – well, you know.
What we need is effort and execution according to plan.
We are making sure that everyone knows what is going to happen and that is why OAS needs to be carefully controlled without the slightest hint of planned violence or disorder.
It won’t matter what we do, because what will be covered is what the media portrays OAS as being.
Public Relations must be very high on the priority of planning. Because, as in Vietnam, we can win all the battles and lose the war to journalists like Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite.
The Bonus Marchers established a camp of ramshackle huts and tents in D.C.: OAS Marchers should stay in hotels and motels as far away from the center of town as possible.
The Bonus Marchers had several communists amongst their organizers, and today that would be a plus, but OAS Marchers must make sure that our organizers both at the top, and throughout the chain of command are well known
Bonus Marchers had no other plan than to demand their promised bonus from congress; OAS Marchers should have a list of their objections to executive and congressional over-reach, and be prepared to meet with and discuss them at any time.
Bonus Marchers were disorganized with no routines, wandering the streets of Washington looking like a bunch of Hobos; OAS marchers should have rallies to attend, meetings established with elected political leaders from their states (bring your home town and state representatives with you – they are either for us, or against us). Additionally, OAS patrons should publish a daily routine with guidelines for getting around.
Bonus Marchers brought no substance with them There was a true depression going on, and tens of thousands were out of work; OAS marchers must have everything they need for a short stay. Not everyone can stay for six to eight weeks, but existing OAS marchers will overlap with arriving OAS supporters so that our presence will be felt for the time established.
We will make this an object lesson to our representatives: They are being monitored, and they can be recalled.
This country belongs to the people, and the elected representatives (including the President) work for the people, not the other way around.
Thanks to Sam for bringing this to my attention, as I said, it was just a matter of time until it surfaced.
Have you heard of Operation American Spring?
That’s the name of a planned march on Washington, D.C., on May 16.
Retired U.S. Army colonel Harry Riley is calling upon millions of patriots to march upon Washington D.C. to remove Pres. Obama, VP Biden, AG Eric Holder, Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell, and Reps. John Boehner and Nancy Pelosi from office.
Riley calls it “OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING – Beginning Of Tyranny Housecleaning” and conceives of three main phases to the plan:
But my friend John J. Molloy, Vietnam War veteran and chairman of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition, invokes the tragedy of the Bonus Army and urges caution.
In 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression, ten thousand unemployed U.S. military veterans of World War I converged on Washington, D.C., to demand the cash bonus promised to them by the “bonus certificates” they’d been issued after the war.
From late May to mid-June, 10,000 veterans occupied America’s capital, camping in tents and wooden shacks, with tens of thousands more on their way. But the U.S. Senate rejected the Bonus Army’s demands.
On July 16, 1932, near midnight, President Herbert Hoover ordered the military to evacuate the veterans from downtown Washington, D.C.
General Douglas MacArthur was put in command; his major aide was future general and U.S. president Dwight Eisenhower. More than 200 calvarymen, among whom was the future general George Patton, 400 infantrymen, and tanks advanced into the Bonus Army camp. Soldiers armed with bayonets and wearing gas masks, without warning, hurled tear gas at the vets.
The vets were driven from their tents. The soldiers burned the tents, wooden shacks, and their contents. The vets were driven across the bridge. General MacArthur ignored an order not to pursue them. Hoover, for his part, retired to bed.
The veterans could not believe that the U.S. military would turn against fellow soldiers and that their countrymen would not support them.
Here’s a video on the Bonus Army. (Read more about them on Wikipedia.)
Here’s an email from John Molloy urging a revision of the planned Operation American Spring:
The protest scheduled for May 16th about a week before ROLLING THUNDER, hopes to have 10 million veterans gathered in protest and desires that 1 million remain in DC until their objectives are attained. I have concerns that this administration would love to get us all in one place and haul us away for good or worse. We cannot allow ourselves to be hamstrung at the outset Not putting all our eggs in one basket is a good idea).
I think that it would be better to conduct protests at the local offices of representatives and senators on that day while the leadership conducts a press conference in DC to note the solidarity of the effort. Given the state of economy and the government’s demeanor, I suspect that it might be better to do this countrywide rather than in one place.
We cannot trust the CinC not to do worse [than what Pres. Hoover did to the Bonus Army of 1932]. Please give the plan very careful consideration. If we are perceived as a threat and you may be certain that there would be government operatives in the crowd who would incite an adverse response for the sake of publicity to justify their actions. Having engaged in numerous protests on behalf of our POWs, the people in authority get very touchy and members of law enforcement sometimes get belligerent (just doing their job).
