What are we dealing with in this country???

I am an 11B (infantry) currently assigned at Fort Campbell. I live off post, with my firearms(which I don't bring on post for any reason). A very frightening thing happened at work yesterday. I was ordered to fill out a list containing my firearm information. This included make, model, caliber, and serial number of all firearms I currently posses. In addition, I was also required to list registration information, location of all weapons individually, and information regarding any CCW permits I posses. If you are like me, then the people you work with know you have firearms. So I had to list at least some. I tried to talk to my 1sg (who is normally aproachable through proper channels) to find out what this is for, and I was basically told, "I don't give a !&@%, just put your info on the form." I don't know how high this goes, but I am hearing that this is going on in other units at Fort Campbell as well. It just seems a little coincidental to me that within 90 days: the most anti-firearm President in history is inaugurated, some of the nastiest anti-firearm laws are put on the table in Washington, and then the Army comes around wanting what amounts to a registration on all firearms, even if they are off post, and doesn't provide any reason or purpose as to why. I fear something really nasty is blowing in the wind here. I have been in almost 8 years, and never have any of my units asked for this information. If any of you out there have any info as to what all this crap is about please chime in. Otherwise consider yourself warned. I have already posted this on every other firearm forum I am a member of to get the word out.

Here it is folks:

I hope plenty of people have placed weapons and ammo where they can never be found.

This is not the first incident I've read about military personel having to register personal firearms. This is the first step to get ALL fireams registered. The next step will be confication. They will spread these steps out over time so people don't get spooked right away. Disarming the public is the ultimate goal.
Disarmament of the world public is one of The United Nations highest priorities.

Another excellent writeup from Backwoods Home Magazine:

Whoa! Janet must be really paranoid about veterans. It makes sense that profiling those getting out by the type of private weapons they possess could be useful to those concerned that they will be "recruited" into the militias. I suppose even active duty personnel with evil looking guns could be suspected of being less than reliable during martial law, etc.

I sympathize with the bind you were in when confronted with this. It is damn unfair, although I doubt that it is unconstitutional as Twana believes. I would be most interested in your reaction to "Gun Collecting Can Be Treasonous," and if favorable would ask that you help disseminate it among your peers.

Thanks for your service, from an old 'Nam era Army veteran... ◄Dave►

As far as jurisdiction, when you are in any service you are held to the UCMJ no matter where you are. You are under military rule no matter what. You are always held accountable for local, state, federal and military laws. Their theory is that wherever you are that what you do reflects on the service you are in.

Thanks Greycoat, I misread MaryAnn's post and thought she was the soldier. ◄Dave►

Seems like the 2nd amendment is in violation here. Wonder what the NRA has to say about it.

My response would have been "what guns"? I wonder if these people ever heard of the 2nd and 4th Amendments to our Constitution? They swore to uphold it! This is a cut & dried issue. They nor anyone else has any right to this sort of information, legally or otherwise. When you are in uniform, you are property of the Federal Govt. When you are at home or out of uniform, you are a sovereign citizen with more authority than they have. Any legal expert or Constitutional historian will tell you the same thing. It's none of their damn business.

The Second Amendment is listed in the Bill of Rights section of the United States Constitution.
The Second Amendment is a Civil Right. PERIOD!

Prejudiceial, liberal, bigots will be only too happy to violate any Civil Rights of all whom they disagree with!

All soldiers, including Comanding Offficers swear an oath to up hold the US Constitution and protect us from enemies both forign and domestic. In this situation it would be prudent for a service man or woman to refuse to to comply as complying violates this oath, PERIOD!

That is very. very scary. I think the fact that that happened to you and what happened to me happening when they did could not possibly be a coincidence.
