Where in the Constitution is it written that it is the governments duty to do this? NO WHERE!
(CNSNews.com) - "All eligible citizens can and should be automatically registered to vote," and it's the government's "responsibility" to see that it happens, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday.
In a call to modernize voter registration, Holder noted that many elections officials still are manually processing new applications, many of them handwritten -- a situation that produces errors and confusion at the polls, he said.
"Fortunately, modern technology provides a straightforward fix for these problems," Holder continued. "It should be the government’s responsibility to automatically register citizens to vote, by compiling -- from databases that already exist -- a list of all eligible residents in each jurisdiction."
The lists would be used "solely to administer elections" and "would protect essential privacy rights," Holder told a gathering at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library in Austin, Texas.
Holder also called for "permanent, portable" voter registration that would follow voters to a new polling place when they move. "Until that happens, we should implement fail-safe procedures to correct voter-roll errors and omissions, by allowing every voter to cast a regular, non-provisional ballot on Election Day," Holder said.
Holder insisted that making voter registration easier is "not likely, by itself, to make our elections more susceptible to fraud." Voter fraud will not be tolerated by the Justice Department, he said, adding that "in-person voting fraud is uncommon."
Holder urged his audience to "speak out," "raise awareness about what's at stake," and "urge policymakers at every level to reevaluate our election systems – and to reform them in ways that encourage, not limit, participation."
Much of Holder's speech focused on his department's efforts to safeguard the right to vote.
As the 2012 presidential election draws closer -- and with Holder's boss scrambling for a second term as president -- Democrats are once again accusing Republicans of trying to limit the right to vote.
On Dec. 1, Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) announced a "new comprehensive effort" to educate voters about their voting rights. That effort includes a Web site that "details what Republicans are doing in regard to voter suppression."
For example, Wasserman Schultz and other Democrats strenuously oppose laws adopted in more than 30 states requiring voters to present a photo ID at the polling place. Republican supporters of photo ID laws say it prevents voter fraud.
On Tuesday, Holder said his Justice Department is now reviewing photo ID laws passed in Texas and South Carolina to see if they meet the requirements of the Voting Rights Act. The Justice Department also is reviewing early voting procedures in Florida, among other voting changes in that state.
"The reality is that – in jurisdictions across the country – both overt and subtle forms of discrimination remain all too common," Holder said.
100%agreed David.Get rid of Obama is #1 priority. We cant afford to loose this election so lets make our votes count.
COMRADES & SLAVES WELCOME TO YOUR NEW COUNTRY ( NOW HOW MUCH WILL YOU PAY ).
A voter is responsible to register if they choose to vote. How is expecting personal responsibility discriminatory? How is showing your ID discriminatory? The damn left just wants their dog, cat and dead to vote. How else do they win in 2012...this idiot along with a host of others should be lined up ifo a firing squad, or hung as traitors.
Liberal editorial writer Cynthia Tucker for the Atlanta Journal-Constipation wrote an op-ed on why requiring ID from voters is a bad thing. Conspicuous by its absence was the number one reason the left opposes ID’s from voters: it makes perpetrating vote fraud that much harder for them.
Anywho, here’s the line that sticks in my craw more than anything:
Citizens like Criswell are Americans, too, and they have every right to vote, just like it says in the Bill of Rights.
Why aren't the republicans in both houses of congress screaming like a bunch of hungary seay-gulls about the atrocity sitting in the Attorney Generals seat in D.C.? My guess is that they have both lost their morality and courage. But the sword of Damacles is hanging over their heads in the form of Treaties. We don't seem to understand the truth in Former Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles words who stated: "Treaties make international law, they also make domestgic law. According to the constitution, treaties can become the supreme law of the land." Further, we don't seem to understand there is only one political/economic movement that is international in scope other than Islam and that is Marxism/Leninism. i.e. communism. The international hdqs for communism is in NYC, housed in the U.N. building .
We have a treaty with the U.N. and are now nearly hog-tied with treaty law. This, my friends, is where Eric Holder gets his authority to propagate his tyranny. This is why Congress won't act. Think of the uproar if we should annul the treaty with the U.N. Think of the tons and tons of rubbish heaped on the person who tried to annul the U.N. treaty. The unholy media outlets around the world would dump on him oceans of garbage until he strangled. That's what happened to former Senator Joseph McCarthy when he did all he could to warn the nation of Marxist/Leninist spies working in our government. That is our Attorney General. Joseph McCarthy was isolated, demonized and stood alone, and likely murdered by the KGB. i.e. the Organization Vladimir Putin later headed up.
Just what is "Fundamental Change" in a Constitutional Republic? Even in grade school, I would've known the answer to that question. We are now beginning to understand the folly of inattention.
Screw Holder and all the rest of the corupt democrat party member. It is governmem't responsibilty to ensure that you have the correct ID to vote.
Sounds like Holder is once again trying to stack the deck as to forcing big government to control the masses. How else will big brother be able to keep track of those that disagree with few elites. If he or his minions can keep physical track of the whereabouts of its dissidents then so much the easier to silence the opposition. Hitler did it, Mussolini did it, Stalin did it, Qaddaffi did it, Hussein did it., and those are just a few of past dictators. The list of attrition is long. He can't even provide the truth on Fast and Furious and the McVeigh bombing terrorist acts! Did you watch his hands and mannerisms? Watch it again and then look at videos of Hitler's speeches and Hussein's speeches. See any resemblances? You decide! Good luck have a great holiday season and may God Bless
