Introducing "The Policy Forum"The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce, on the occasion of its fifteenth anniversary, the inauguration of "The Policy Forum," a series of occasional papers dealing with current issues of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.We hope this series, building on an existing scholarly foundation, offers a useful contribution to some of the questions facing Washington policymakers. The Policy Forum invites submissions. Papers may be variable in length from op-ed size (700 words) to full article (5,000 words). Its target audience is the Washington policy community; accordingly, we seek well-documented essays with new insights or new information – rather than pure opinion pieces or known information. The series will be distributed and published electronically, a format that permits the timely publication that policy issues often demand.Steven J. Rosen, a highly-regarded analyst, has agreed to serve as editor of the series (and has written the first article in the series, below). Mr. Rosen has a doctorate from the Maxwell School of Diplomacy at Syracuse University and has taught at Brandeis University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Australian National University. At the RAND Corporation, he conducted and managed research for the State and Defense departments. He then served for 23 years as director of foreign policy issues at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He is the author of many publications, including a widely used textbook, The Logic of International Relations, and a series of studies on the potential for enhanced U.S.-Israel strategic cooperation. Please send ideas for articles, articles, and other communication to Steven Rosen, Rosen@MEForum.org.Daniel PipesDirectorMiddle East Forum
