Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats have changed the rules on the filibuster capability of the minority party. In effect what this does is completely stop the republicans from blocking any of Obama's court nominees or political appointments. It gives the president near dictatorship powers and effectively tells the Republicans don't even bother to show up, we don't need you any more.
And they can get away with this even though the Republicans hold the majority in the House.
