A one-man grand jury has been authorized to investigate possible election fraud in Oakland County.

At the request of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, thecounty’s circuit court judges approved the special investigator thisafternoon.

The request followed reports that Oakland County Democratic party officials were involved in helping put candidates for the so-called TeaParty on the November ballot. Several of those candidates said they didnot sign affidavits to run for office that were notarized by recentlyresigned Democratic Party official Jason Bauer.

A Free Press investigation published Friday also linked the county Democrats’ chairman Mike McGuinness to the effort toget Tea Party candidates to run in hotly contested races to draw votesfrom Republicans and help Democrats win.

Patterson applauded the court for approving the request.

“It is a very powerful investigative tool that is now available to assist Sheriff Michael Bouchard and Prosecutor JessicaCooper in uncovering allegations of election fraud,” he said.

Circuit Judge Edward Sosnick was named unanimously as the one-man grand juror.
