Republican congressional candidate says violent overthrow of government is 'on the table'

I was going to wait until after the elections to start this important conversation that we need to have, but now is a important time to have it.

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies;and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.

WASHINGTON – Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden stunned his party Thursday, saying he would not rule out violent overthrow of the government if elections did not produce a change in leadership.


In a rambling exchange during a TV interview, Broden, a South Dallas pastor, said a violent uprising "is not the first option," but it is "on the table." That drew a quick denunciation from the head of the Dallas County GOP, who called the remarks "inappropriate."


Broden, a first-time candidate, is challenging veteran incumbent Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Dallas' heavily Democratic 30th Congressional District. Johnson's campaign declined to comment on Broden.


In the interview, Brad Watson, political reporter for WFAA-TV (Channel 8), asked Broden about a tea party event last year in Fort Worth in which he described the nation's government as tyrannical.

"We have a constitutional remedy," Broden said then. "And the Framers say if that don't work, revolution." Watson asked if his definition of revolution included violent overthrow of the government. In a prolonged back-and-forth, Broden at first declined to explicitly address insurrection, saying the first way to deal with a repressive government is to "alter it or abolish it."


"If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary," Broden said, adding the nation was founded on a violent revolt against Britain's King George III.


Watson asked if violence would be in option in 2010, under the current government. "The option is on the table. I don't think that we should remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms," Broden said, without elaborating. "However, it is not the first option."

Reactions

Jonathan Neerman, head of the Dallas County Republican Party, said he's never heard Broden or other local Republican candidates advocate violence against the government.


"It is a disappointing, isolated incident," Neerman said. He said he plans to discuss the matter with Broden's campaign. Ken Emanuelson, a Broden supporter and leading tea party organizer in Dallas, said he did not disagree with the "philosophical point" that people had the right to resist a tyrannical government. But, he said, "Do I see our government today anywhere close to that point? No, I don't."

Emanuelson said he's occasionally heard people call for direct action against the government, but that they typically do not get involved in electoral politics.


That Broden is "engaged in the election and running for office shows he's got faith in the system as it is," Emanuelson said.


Other statements Also in the interview, Broden backed away from other controversial statements he has made at rallies and on cable news appearances. In
June 2009, he described the economic crash in the housing, banking and automotive industries as "contrived" and a "set up" by the Obama
administration.


Asked Thursday about the validity of these, Broden said they were "authentic crises facing this nation." Broden also retreated from other remarks last year that chided Americans for not being more outraged over government intrusion, comparing them to Jews "walking into the furnaces" under the Nazi regime in Germany.


"They are our enemies, and we must resist them," he said of government leaders. Broden said Thursday that he wasn't trying to compare President Barack Obama to Hitler and he mistakenly linked the U.S. in 2010 to Nazi Germany.


In the uphill campaign against Johnson, Broden has sought to capitalize on her misuse of scholarship funds from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a nonprofit entity.

In late August, The Dallas Morning News reported that Johnson provided 23 scholarships over five years to two of her grandsons, two children of her nephew, and two children of her top aide in Dallas. None of those recipients were eligible under the foundation's anti-nepotism rules or residency requirements. She has repaid the foundation more than $31,000.

Well personally, I want to be close enough so I can see the whites of their eyes, when they see 150 million pissed off and armed voters moving into Washington and into the Government Buildings that "WE THE PEOPLE" OWN. I want to see whether they have the balls to do anything at that point but COWER.....All of them are pathetic and my wrath will be justified....and may God bless those he will have tasked to remove the evil-doers where they may be found.....GOD BLESS AMERICA, AGAIN...

While one can hardly eliminate any possibility at this point, I am a bit surprised that Broden would speak so openly on this issue, at least at this point. IMO he risks the safely of himself and his loved ones in doing so and if it is a calculated risk that he is taking, so bit it, but still...I fear for his safety and that of his loved ones. Time will tell what the ultimate outcome brings; we are all well aware that the present powers in control will neither concede power nor stop at ANYTHING to increase and maintain it, however.
As a Citizen and Patriot and one that has served my country for more than 35 years, I fail to see what it is about Broden's remarks that is so offensive to the old Republicans of his state party. Certainly, our Declaration of Independence is clear enough, certainly our Constitution is clear enough. It took our founders long enough and after much suffering and dedication to producing an almost perfect document that has served us well for more than two hundred years, it seems entirely appropriate that all matters that adversely effect our freedoms including the usurpation of our freedoms by that Democratic National Socialist Party is certainly on the table now as well as after the election as one option open to the American people that the Congress and this current administration has so willingly ignored and bypassed in their zeal to bring a change that no one in their right mind could possibly want. Certainly change that the vast majority of Americans now see they just cannot live with nor tolerate much longer.

It is on the table and if indeed you are a leader of the Republican Party in Texas or any other state you might as well get used to it because you and the party are as much to blame for the current situation as the NSD party. And just so you know, you are not immune from firing any more so than the democrats that are going to be retired in about a week's time. Get used to it, As for me I can hardly wait to cast my vote. I will be voting for the only candidate of the three running for congressman from my district and while it is on his record to date, I am only doing so because I will not further the objectives of the other two candidates to carry on the Obama/Reid/Pelosi agenda. Oh and the rest of you RINOs are getting pink slips also. You called it, now live with it. Semper Fidelis.
this is what this government would like to see. they started it, ''WE THE PEOPLE'' will finish it..they pay no mind to ''WE THE PEOPLE'', they do whatever they want, there telling us 'THE WE'S'' what to say, what to eat, what to read, there taking all our jobs, (the one's we still have) making so much RULES to prevent jobs to be created? they also own more co's then the WE'S own,
THE BANKS ARE THE KEY, they own it, and what money belongs to the WE's will no longer be OUR'S..more and more jobs are going oversea's so what is left to the WE's...................................NOTHING..wait till they take over the grocery stores??...that all we need............AMERICA, i'm 65 yrs old....i don't need this B.S.....i pray every night for all this to end, but i will fight for my kids & my grandkids...that the ''FUTURE'' DO YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE UNDER A RULE, NOT TO BE FREE, ......

Glenn Beck is the only one in America who has the platform to inform us about the realities of our lives today and how those GODless progressives have infiltrated us for over 100 years. Yes, he is a pacifist, but he also has the courage of his convictions to say what and why he feels the way he does.

I am not a pacifist because I believe what the Bible tells me about protecting myself and others from enemies.

Sure it tells us to pray for our enemies, but not what to pray for them. This charter we lived under for the first half of America is still the controlling document for which we who love this country will fight and even die for. I will gladly do what is necessary to protect my rights as given by the Bill of Rights and I certainly will respond if I am threatened.

One thing Beck has been saying is that what is happening in Greece, is coming to America, and I believe that as well. The unions are the thugs that will start revolution but We must be prepared to meet them head on.

Pray like never before and GOD will guide us to victory!

We don't have to divide into 3 countries. God gave our Founders the foresight to set ways in the Constitution to handle even these times. When a government becomes Tyrannical  the Constitutional way is through impeachment. When those in cahoots with the tyrants are equally corrupt, they too are to be impeached. That's why our military police, and elected officials (including bureaucrats) take an oath to uphold the constitution. Anyone not abiding after their oath is commiting a crime. Those in office can be impeached for this, and those who simply have official positions, need to be made public, until there is enough outcry for their firing. This is exactly what's being presented in the 11.11.11 Declaration. It's only after going after EVERY legal method of changing administrations that violence should EVER be considered. Then let's remember that the legal way is, as called for in the call to Patriotism NEVER start the violence, but be prepared if someone else becomes violent against us.

We are a nation of laws, and to behave like the left's darlings of the ows crowd, is to dishonor all those who gave their lives, their blood, their health, or at the least, their comfort and family time, to make this nation what it once was, and to keep it there. Alas, it's we, who have failed them by living our lives, without the activism that the enemies of our way of life, have always been involved in, Now we must work twice as hard, FIRST TO GET THE TRUTH OUT, SECOND, TO INSIST PEOPLE NOT ONLY HEAR THE TRUTH BUT HOLD THE LIARS, AND HATERS OF THIS COUNTRY ACCOUNTABLE, AND THIRD, DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO RETURN THIS COUNTRY TO WHAT OUR FOREFATHERS ORIGINALLY GAVE US. It may not have been 50 states, but for how many various states it was, IT WAS ONE STATE OF MIND!!! God Bless America, may she know freedom again!!

A lot of Texans have been bandying secession around again, and frankly I encouraged my state legislators and Governor Brewer to consider that also, some months ago, in the sense of preparing for it, in the event nullification, which they are doing quite heavily, should fail. Between the laws they've passed this past couple of years and the propositions on our current ballots dealing with nullification, I sincerely hope they are seriously considering the possibility of secession too, and would consider allying with Texas in the doing. But, I too, fear the nation is now too divided, and with the current administration NO amount of reconciliation is likely to even be presented,. much less possible. Neither do I hold out much in the way of hopes for this election to change that situation. I'm more than a little afraid we'll find we have a bunch of Scott Browns in the wings here. I also understand where MAJ Worn is coming from, and fear, as much as I hate to admit it, he may well be correct. In which case secession MIGHT salvage something, if the states' leaderships aren't too chicken to go through with it!
You're right. We are at the point now where that is shaping up to be the only option left to us. This unConstitutional business of having the 9th circuit court adjudicating against AZ laws where it has NO jurisdictional authority is really beyond ridiculous; the latest is telling us we can't require proof of citizenship in order to register to vote! So Obama's GOT his illegals' votes without the amnesty! It's positively disgusting. I don't know what this place IS, but it's NOT the America I served and grew up in, or that all my forebears served either!
I am, and we do have some very fine sheriffs here.  I'm not so sure about Gov. Brewer this past few months; something's changed there, and I'm not near enough to Phoenix to know exactly what.  But I'd definitely like to see alliance with TX should the course for secession be taken.  OK and NM seem to be moving more in that direction than they had been as well.UT and CO, unfortunately, no; they'd have to go with CA and probably NV as well.
